Scored a '68 C-40 and a '72? GMC 5500

I bought a '68 C-40 dump truck and a 72 or 73 GMC parts truck. I am confused about the GMC because the VIN indicates a "3" like it is a '73 year model?. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them, but the dump truck has a great running 292.

How in the world are you going to haul the GMC home? Put it in the back of the dump truck?
Nice score!

Nice, did ya score a tach dash or 2?
HMMM, i don't seem to have a C-40 emblem in my collection...
I am not sure if the Vin decoder is the same on the bigger series? I would say it is not newer than 72.

There are ALWAYS a few(less than 10 usually)vehicles made the year after that style is stopped. That is most likely one of them. Nice scores! Give me one!

too much stuff - It's because I bought it! Actually I have 67-72 C/50 Diesel emblem. Pretty sweet!

Re: Scored a '68 C-40 and a '72? GMC 5500

The GMC has '72 doors with the plastic door panels and the dimples with extra screw, but it has no "2" in the VIN. Does anybody know for that these trucks didn't carry over longer than '72? I have always thought that they cut off in '72 like the pickups.

The dumper is a shorty. I haven't checked the WB yet, but it is really short. I haven't looked at the SPIDs' yet, but neither had tach dashes or a vac/air pressure gauges. The GMC has a big Tulsa PTO winch on and both have 2 speed rearends. The GMC was V8 truck according to badge, but it is gone.

Well, I own 6 acres (mostly wooded) and I have big spot cleared out back in the woods that I keep my parts trucks. I usually keep my ramp truck and dump truck back there, too. These 2 put me back up to 16 total for 67-72's. I have sold 3 of them recently, and I was gettin' a little thin! I just can't seem to turn them down when I get these kind of deals.

I do have VERY understand wife!

Re: Scored a '68 C-40 and a '72? GMC 5500

Funny story...I was sitting in my office with my back turned to the door talking to CARS4567 about my recent acquistion. He asked what my wife thought about the growing herd of '67-72's. I told him she didn't have a clue and had not been back into the pasture for years and would probably never even know how many I had stored back there. Guess who was standing behind me when I spun my chair around to look...we both had a good laugh about that one. She still has not been back there...LOL!
