Great looking rig, congrats. I'd leave the rear gears as they are. If you want an automatic, TH400 was available in those. As for overdrive, I would lean toward accomplishing that by inserting a Gear Vendors over/underdrive behind either your current trans or a TH400, I wouldn't mess with an o/d trans personally.

Mine will be getting a 6.0/4L80E and a 3:73 14 Bolt. I have a 350/400 in it now, probably original only has about 79000 on the Odometer and looks to be correct. Even if you buy these from the west coast I would inspect the heck out of it for water damage. Mine spent all its life in the Zona and the side wall with the door was rotted to the core. I am doing a complete revamp and it will get a whole new box and redesign of the living area. Once you tear one of these apart you will see how simple they are built to the point of being scary. Staples everywhere and very thin material.

Enough glue, plywood, staples and nails, it's plenty strong. It's called aggregate strength, in the building industry. Though I will have to agree that it isn't all that strong in a crash.

When it is new, but after 40 years of neglect and water damage you could probably push through the wall on mine with the rot. The vents on the roof did a lot of damage to mine as they were not sealed at all. Some wood supports on mine crumbled in my hand. The siding on these are stapled to the sides. You can pull them off easy. If it is original I would hesitate to drive in an area with high winds. Could blow it apart. Mine will get Filon siding and more support in the walls for strength.

My floors were still pretty solid for being original.

Hey guys, bunch of great info, thanks. Ya it doesn’t have a tach in it now, but at what the speedo said was 50, the engine was a screaming, Lol. I really like the 4 speed, but maybe a T400 would be the way to go? I just sold an extra one I had, damn. There is a couple small wet spots, but I can’t find any rot. Thanks.

Surprisingly, once my wife saw this in person I think she wanted it more than I did. When we didn't get it the first time we saw it, I caught her searching craigslist for another one! We've got 6 camping trips in it so far. Averaged 11 mpg over Mt. Hood to eastern Oregon for a raft trip.

If you like the 4-speed, keep it. I only mentioned the TH400 in case you actually wanted an automatic. Your current 4-speed and a TH400 both have a 1:1 high gear, so they will scream at the same rpm on the highway. If your rear gears have been changed or you aren't sure what they are, your speedo is likely incorrect - use a GPS to see what your actual speed is. As Joe mentioned, 4.57 rear would've been stock for your truck. If you like the 4-speed and are itching for overdrive, the Gear Vendors unit allows you to keep it and have a significant reduction in highway rpm - it also allows you to split each gear in half, essentially gives you an 8-speed (that you don't have to use) with a top gear that is overdriven. It's a very good option for a motor home. Not cheap though, plan on ~$3K new, $1-1.5K used.

Ya Jocko, I didn't even think of the gps app. on my phone on the way home, but car were passing me like crazy, Lol. Maybe I will have to go the gear vendors route, I have been looking at them. But first things first, get it cleaned and remodel the in side, someone had a great idea to spray the entire inside white, ugh. they painted over the stained class on the cuboard doors.

Ha, yeah, all white inside sounds horrible... I like your plan, just get the inside redone and make the rest reliable and drivable, you can always add a GV later if you like.

Keep an eye out for some cool 60's vintage/period correct stuff and put it in there.....that really brings attention.
I found and added a bunch of stuff into our little trailer...stuff like extra 12V lights, magazine rack, chrome table trims, etc.
My wife helped out with redoing the upholstery on the cushions, etc.
..they are a lot of fun and way more interesting than the modern rigs...which, like the cars...are pretty much identical.

Wouldn't I love to have one of these Motorhomes, but I think someone else could get much more use out of it. I see most of these that are in good shape are from the Southwest.
One day I might get a vintage trailer and paint it to match the paint color/scheme of my truck, like I'm doing with my Gooseneck Flatbed/Cattle hauler to match my Dually.

Thanks Guys! Here are a few I had of the interior, little water damage up front but not too bad. The blue tinted Plexiglas I thought was neat too! It has the 305 v6 in it, trying to decide if I should keep it since they are kind of neat or go to a big block or LS...
