new key barrel turns with no key

I replaced the key barrel and the ignition switch works in all positions with or without a key. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

Re: new key barrel turns with no key

If it is the one with the little lever thing on it it will except when you lock it with the key.

It does have the brass pins in it that the key moves so that it will turn ?? With the key out they should be sticking out enough so the cylinder doesn't turn and when you put the key in they should all be level with the surface of the cylinder so they will turn. If they are missing it will turn just as you describe.

Re: new key barrel turns with no key

My key barrel fits into the ignition switch in the ACC position and locks into the switch. There are two small holes on the right side of the key, the top one you push to remove the barrel and I don't know what the bottom one does.

Re: new key barrel turns with no key

These foreign made switches are just made that way. I tried a new tumbler & a new switch & it still didn't work right. I went to Classic parts & bought a matching pair & it did the same thing. I took them back & they tried a couple of other new ones & they were all alike. You could turn them on & of with any thing. Any key, screw driver, or coin. I'm not going to tell were I park my truck.
