Help, Won't Start.

Recently bought a 1977 c10 fitted with a 350 SBC that needed a bit of TLC, It was not running very well when I got it

I started of by taking one of the heads off to sort a snapped exhaust manifold bolt and leaking exhaust manifold gaskets. I rebuilt it with new head gasket, New inlet manifold gaskets and exhaust gaskets. I also fitted new spark plugs, ignition wires, distributer cap, rotor arm and carburettor.

Im sure I have the distributor set right, TDC set to no 1 cylinder, right firing order and I have reset the valve gaps. I have a spark and I have fuel getting to the carb but it will not fire up.

Im at a total loss as to why it will not start, any ideas ??? please help

Re: Help, Won't Start.

You could be off 180 degrees on the dizzy or you have the valves set wrong.

Re: Help, Won't Start.

I second what geezer said. Make sure you have the #1 piston TDC on the compression stroke (not the exhaust stroke)before setting the distributor in. Also make sure the rotor is pointing at the #1 terminal on the cap after it is set in.

Anytime I'm sure of something and the problem isn't solved, I find the thing I'm so sure isn't the problem, is.
