68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

I've been getting a lot of requests for photos of this truck.
Since I already started with the epic introduction and the kick-ass video. Lets make this the build thread starting with a few photos of what she looks like now.

I've been trying to figure out where to go with it and have yet to turn a single wrench on her. So lets get the ball rolling......

Thank God for the 3 on the tree! PLEASE tell us "you are keeping it original."

*So no cigarette lighter either? My dad's truck didn't have one and he put a manual choke there.

Great video. The truck has a slight grin on its grille knowing it has another chance in life. I saw the truck when I was there.I think it was the truck on the History channel show. Nice score, I am anxious to see what comes next.

Subscribed as I love seeing tired trucks restored. Do you have a plan and vision for the truck?

Re: 68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

I learned to drive on a Three on the Tree on my dad's 76 Blazer that I ended up driving to high school with. I've always loved the 67/68 pickups and gravitate towards them at car shows. Now that I have one I need to figure out a plan. Initial thoughts have been: leave body and patina and wrinkled chrome as is, repair rust, restore interior, upgrade brakes, static drop, hand letter Lambrecht Parts Dept -Pierce Nebraska on doors and weather to match rest of truck, tasteful wheel tire combo, drive.

Thanks. I put in an initial bid of $900 online ahead of the auction. Waited a few days and someone else bid $1400. So I said to myself what do I really want to pay for it? So I put in a maximum bid of $2100. I read somewhere recently that there are deals at these huge auctions not just high dollar cars. I was on the road when the auction began and was hoping to get on the computer when I got home to see Proxibid Live Simulcast. I get home and have no idea where they are in the bidding. I scroll down to my lot number and saw the price it sold at......$2100 bought by......YOU!!!!!!

Re: 68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

I like how you think.

Your plan is pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be--especially the part where you leave the patina/body as is. That is nearly perfect patina.

Then put some $$$ into the interior and into the drive train to make it perfect.

Re: 68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

That video is too cool.

I'd get the mechanicals right and just drive it for a bit- let it tell YOU what it wants.

You'll probably be overwhelmed for a little bit just making it a reliable driver. I've probably got better than a grand in mine just making it trustworthy (tires, carb, ignition, other random mechanicals).... Now that it is, I'm starting to chip away at cosmetics and my own touches.

I think you'll enjoy the truck a lot more if you are able to start driving it/enjoying it and just do a little bit at a time. If you get in too deep too fast you'll get into a deep dark spiral of spending with no joy of actually driving the truck!

BTW- PM sent...

Re: 68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

I would agree with the truck letting you know what it needs. It may be quite happy with stuff you think needs to be changed out. Great video bybthebway.

I sent the video along to Vanderbrink auctions and they sent it to the Lambrecht family. I got a personal note from Ray's daughter saying how much she liked tge video and they were happy to see the truck going to its new home!!!!

Re: 68 Lambrecht Rebuild Project

It's great to see that 68 get a new lease on life. That's a really great video. Did you use a Gopro or something?

Thanks toms68cst glad you like the video. When I picked up the Uhaul truck I attached a fixed gopro mounting bracket to the upper left rear corner above the roll up door. I then configured a bracket out of their plastic modular parts so every time I put a camera there it was always in the exact same place. The truck mounted cameras were gorilla taped in place. I used a GoPro Hero3 set on a photo interval of every 30 seconds. Then I made it into a TimeLapse movie in QuickTime and edited the piece in iMovie on my Mac.
