1992 Sierra CDM/radio receiver

Hey guys! I'm usually over in the 66 section but I'm having issues with my 92. I just bought a 92 sierra 2500 and the radio does not work. It has the stuck at 1:00 and nothing works thing going on. This truck has the cassette player with the EQ options. I have another 92 sierra 1500 that has the cassette player without the EQ options. I can't seem to find a cdm anywhere that says it's compatible with the EQ stuff. My question is can I swap/buy a cdm/receiver that didn't have the EQ option and use that? the only thing I'm trying to do is have some music while I drive. Or if I get an aftermarket radio can I get rid of the cdm all together? Thanks in advance!

Re: 1992 Sierra CDM/radio receiver

they do sell a aftermarket set up where you can put a smaller radio where your EQ is, thats what i ended up doing in my 1990.

one thing you can try but not going to promise it works is try unplugging your EQ and see if that fixes it. i had the same issue where my radio turned on but didnt do anything so i went and bought the insert for the center of the dash to put in a aftermarket radio, when i removed the EQ the radio started working the second i unplugged it. i installed the aftermarket radio anyways as i wanted to use my ipod with it.

its worth a shot i guess

Thanks for the response! I'll try unplugging the cassette/EQ unit and see if I can get the radio to work.

If you want to keep your stock equipment there is a guy that rebuilds our units. He can also add an aux jack to plug your Ipod into. He advertises his services on ebay as 1factoryradio

Does the EQ work with the Radio also or only with the tape player?
