Who wants to come help me Saturday? I still have Lefty and will be using him to haul lumber to build another deck. I'll even let you drive. Some of th lumber is 20' long. One last haul for me and the old truck together

Meet at west side Menards, 8:00 by the entrance to outside warehouse. I've got an assortment of lumber to get. Some are 20' long.

Sister called me tonight. She wants to build a garage. I seriously doubt I could get all the wood for that in one trip

Re: Looking for volunteers

20' in Lefty? How many volunteers you figure you need to sit on the front to weight it down? How far are you from Menard's, 15-20 minutes? Just trying to see how much of the day I'll be giving up for that...plus driving time.

Re: Looking for volunteers

I'll put the 4x8 lattice in first. Then the 20'ers, then 18'ers, 14' deck boards, so on and so forth. Finish off with concrete piers and bags of paver leveling sand up front. I went through the list and numbered it all in order that I want it loaded.

It's nice to have a truck with an 8'2" box and 2' tailgate. Not going to even ask crazy, boat killing nephew to help with his 4 door 04 K1500 short box

Re: Looking for volunteers

I wish my truck was a LWB......if I had the garage space, I would buy one of those C30's with a 9 foot bed.

Re: Looking for volunteers

I think the usual way to haul really long lumber is lay it over the cab at an angle. Cops will write you up.

Re: Looking for volunteers

I took a 20 ft ladder home under a '48 Ford one time. Slid it under the car and tied the ends to the bumpers. I was nervous, took my time, but had no issues at all.
I've also used boat trailers for long stuff.

Re: Looking for volunteers

I wondered if there was a boat trailer around, but figured not or we wouldn't be having this conversation. All you guys out there building custom this and tricked out that trucks but when it comes to Saturday morning chores you got nothin'. I'm way ahead of you. Nice sunny day cruiser for those honey-do Saturday mornings
