1977 3/4 Ton Factory Aluminum 16.5" Wheels

My recollection needs assistance. My older brothers buddy had a 76 or 77 3/4 with factory aluminum wheels, round holes, similar to later model suburban 1/2 tons. They are 16.5". I think the truck had a decal on the hood as well but that part is really questionable. Truck was silver in color.

I realize getting 16.5" tires is an issue, but does anyone have any pics or more information about the wheels and or the decals on that vintage truck.

I did find some 9.50 x 16.5 locally, but remember when my father put either 1100 or 1200 x 16.5" Michelins on Bucky's truck. He groaned at the price, but later was thrilled to get 50-60K on that set of tires.

I don't recall any styled wheels for 3/4 ton trucks available from the factory in that timeframe.

Just basic steel wheels with various hub cap/wheel covers.

I will get a picture of the wheels and post later this week. It just came back to me that his truck was a GMC, so that may be the fly in the ointment.

You rock. Thanks for the ad and recollection. I don't remember the stripes but ... so be it, the ad shows it all.

On my 71 GMC, I put a set of aluminum slots on it and added the GMC centers from rally wheels that had been on a "Gentlemen Jim" truck. That again is my recollection

Bucky had the factory wheels repolished a few years back, they now need to be dressed up but still look decent.

I would like to get them and possibly put them on my 85 Silverado, or use on the 69 Longhorn, but realize the choice of tires is slim for 16.5" radials.

Anyone have any tire experience getting 16.5" radials?

I don't think I have ever seen the 3/4 ton version of those wheels.

As far as 16.5's, it seems to be mudders or dually tires. Very little selection for day to day drivers. Most all are radials though.

3/4 tons got rode hard and put away wet.

I've seen two SARGE GMC pickups in the last 30 years and they were asking big bucks. I bet there aren't too many more than that left. If someone was looking for a truly rare square that would be the one.
