Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Okay, I'll grab some tomorrow or Monday.

I didn't want to mess on your thread, but since you asked I'll take some and load them up as soon I can.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Was able to take some shots of it today. Let me preface it by saying that my fabricating skills are non existent and this was my first attempt. I used one piece and created relieve cuts along the edges, but it still seems to lift off a bit there.

Seeing how beautiful your blazer is I figure you or someone you know could do a much better job, so I just hope this gets ideas flowing for you.

Here are the pics:

This weatherstrip on top comes with the soft top:

Please ignore the horrible condition of this windshield frame. I put weatherstrip under the bracket because mine doesn't hug the header very well (only because of my rookie skills):

Let me know if you need any other pics, or details.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Thanks for the pics. Actually looks like a slick design. I'll have to keep this in mind when it comes in a look at their piece.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

There are 4 front attachment points for the hard top. Why did you only choose to utilize 2 for your bracket? Or am I just missing them?

I will definitely be building something like this when the time comes.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

You are correct that I didn't use the bolts through the visors to hold it down. But unlike the hard top the three bolts on each side of the windshield frame under the triangle piece of weather stripping hold my bracket down at the edges, so I figured the bolts through the visors weren't necessary. I believe my bracket extends far enough that I could utilize those, but it doesn't seem necessary in my experience so far.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Wow. Already got a UPS shipping notification. Says it'll be here on the 15th. I guess they're only 5 or so hours away in Colorado. (I'm in Nebraska)

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

what transmission / transfer case combo did you go with ?

I have a crashed 1999 new body style 2500 4x4 with the 6.0L that I was planning on swapping it all into mine, but I think the drop for the front diveshaft is on the other side.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Transmission is 4L60E, TC is a V2500 i believe, whatever a early 90's suburban had (I can't quite remember what the name was) I wanted that transfer case because it was electronic but the driveshaft still went to the same side as the original blazer tcase.

yes the drop on the 99 is on the left and blazers are on the right. so you need to use the stock tc or get a new frnt axle.

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

Well lets just say I ran into problems and couldn't get it done last night, so ill have it finished today. Instructions are useless, it would help if parts were labeled, the self tapping snaps for the header bar are CRAP. They don't even work, had to drill a hole and use a real self tapping screw first that way the snap would screw in and rounded some of them out screwing them in. The parts dont even match the pictures in the instructions. Theyre updated parts which i like but it would be so much more helpful if the instructions were updated as well. But the top itself is GREAT quality. Once everything gets worked out I'm going to love every bit of it! Cant wait to have it put together!

Re: My '72 Blazer project.

The major problem I had which is why I didn't finish it the first day was that the holes on the rail didn't match the holes in the bed. IDK what the heck happened there, if they sent the wrong one or if drilling new holes which I had to do was the new way. And since my old top was a double wall I would've figured they would've sent nuts to go with the bolts on the rail. Oh well, one thing about being on a farm is that there's plenty of nuts/bolts around. Overall, I love it! I can't wait till summer and really enjoy it.
