60 4x4 power steering conversion

Thanks in advance,

I have a 60 short step half ton. My research so far had brought up cross steer conversions which I do not have.

My box pitman arm shaft spline comes out the side and the arm points straight down. Then linkage runs horizontal to the top of knuckle.

Would love some help. Thanks Ray

Re: 60 4x4 power steering conversion

This forum is my only hope, or I head to junk yard and find something.

ccp says none of their boxes are heavy enough for 4x4.
lmc has nothing
Golden state trucks has nothing

I have called all 4x4 shops in sac, nothing.

I have emailed Captain Fab. And another vendor on this site.

Just maybe getting close, maybe a push pull steering box from an 80s chevy 4x4 will work. May have to fab my brackets but I can do that.
I will post the results.

Re: 60 4x4 power steering conversion

search for 4x4 builds here. there is a few of us the that have done it. Captains mounting plate is what i used. I take it you have a stock front axle (closed knuckle)? Go to the 6o-66 forum and ck out my build. A little more info over there. You could drive up the hill and ck out mine as you are in Sac.

Re: 60 4x4 power steering conversion

We fired up the 60, first run in 15 years. Ran just perfect.

Last Saturday we went to LA and bought following at truck shop; tank, sending unit, carpet, sill plates, filler neck and got a catalogue. We looked at the quality of the chrome bed step plates, they looked awesome, will order them soon.

We ordered new polished aluminum radiator from auto city classic 239.00. New chrome vacuum booster and master for 180.00.

Got a steering box and pitman arm, O'Reilly will have drag link parts and clutch slave by 10am tomorrow.

New brackets coming from captain fab.

Tomorrow is removal of seat and tank.

Thanks much to this forum.

Front rear shoes

I thought it would be too good to be true. Oriellys got me wrong shoes for front. Their computer said they would fit.

Anybody got a good part number. Their hoses fit fine.

Seat rebuild

Rebuild the broken parts

Used the old fashion tie twine to make it improved. I will reinforce with foam.
