Rear Sliding Glass Repair

My 83 has the factory original rear sliding glass & the windows channel seals are toast.

Otherwise, the assembly is in good shape.

Can these rear sliders be repaired with new channels with the assembly still attached to the cab?

I'm not talking about the window seal rubber. That's fine.

Just the channels that the glass rides on.

I haven't tried yet, but do the 2 glass pieces come out of the frame?

Anyone ever do this repair?

Re: Rear Sliding Glass Repair

Found this video on youtube, so I would say yes. But too find replacements, that might be the challenge.

Re: Rear Sliding Glass Repair

Thanks for that link.

Looking at mine, it doesn't look like it comes apart like what was shown in the video.

Wondering if it's worth the time in trying to fix or just replace the whole thing...

Re: Rear Sliding Glass Repair

A good glass shop should be able get the stuff or rebuild it for you. There two main types from Factory.

Re: Rear Sliding Glass Repair

Try a glass shop like the guy above said. I have a window from CR Laurence. It's a good looking piece and works well on the bench but when it's installed it gets bound up easy like it's being squeezed in the window. It could just be my truck has tighter than normal clearances but thats my experiences with it so far.
