‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

Found this driving around today. In this condition what do you think it’s worth? Haven’t driven but it’s a 1 owner with 140k original miles. Owner says it runs fine with minor carb issues.

It really depends on how much rust it has. You need to check all of the known rust areas and access how much work it is going to need. Could be anywhere from 1k to $3500.

I'm going to move the thread to the pickup forum.....

Easier to ask you as to what the owner is asking and saying if its worth that.

Re: ‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

Judging just from the pics alone, I dont see any huge holes in the rockers or around the normal areas. Looks like a LWB but I cant tell for sure. If the title is clean, runs and drives just has carb issues .. again it all depends on the rust involved and how bad you want it. I'm saying $1500-3000. Im not sure Id put more than that in it unless I could actually see it in person. Even then $3500 tops.

Looks like the drip rail on the roof is rusty there may be rust in the cab, check above the windshield, alos check inside the cowl and way under the dash as well. Looks nice otherwise.

I like that truck and I would probably move in on it.
Here is why....is appears to be very straight and original, which gains big points in my book.
The fact it may have rust is a big factor for sure and worthy of investigation....but if it isn't molested, then it has hope and it certainly has some general value and utility.
Minor to 'reasonable' rust is ok, so long as you aren't out a lot of money.

One thing that I hate seeing on a used, older truck is when every fender has a dent and every bumper is bent and to top it off....then the interior looks like someone was using it store junk....and they want money for that.
Seriously....some people don't actually take 30-45 seconds to clean out their vehicle before taking pics of it....even if they just toss the stuff on the lawn for 5 minutes then refill the cab or box again with the stuff....go figure, lol.
I don't see a lot of dents on that truck...but I see some wear, age and usage....but whoever was driving it looks like they had all their faculties and that probably bodes well for the truck.

If the price is reasonable, and the guys have posted up a good range or probable pricing...then go get it.
The original trucks are harder to find and it might clean up quite nice.

I would

Re: ‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

$1,000 if it's rotten with mechanical issues, $4,800 if a pleasant surprise.

If there's 140K on the original block, he may have more than carb issues. The old 8 cyl. were only good for 100Kish. 140K would involve some luck and great maint.

Like already mentioned, it looks used, but not abused. One owner is pretty sweet.

Re: ‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

Unless you can drive it and see what all you have going on, mechanical wise, I would want to be in at 2-2500 tops. If you have to go through brakes, eng, trans, exhaust. and you already know you need a seat cover, you will tally up quickly. Be careful and slow down, make a list of what you see wrong with it and double that cost. Should be a safe number.

Re: ‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

$2500 tops in my book. Take 5 minutes and crawl under it, check out the floors and supports from underneath. Look inside the cab reach down the cab corners and feel for Bando or rust. Wear a glove! If the motor runs great, but its almost 50yrs old so you'll probably end up doing something with that also. As long as you have a vision and your willing to spend time on it, I say buy it and let the fun begin.

With all the money you end up pouring into it, the original purchase price is soon forgotten

Re: ‘72 c10 deluxe. What’s it worth (urgent)

I'd say $4K less rust repair. If there's $1000 of little rust here and there, you've got a $3500 truck. But it looks a lot rustier than that... if it's got $3500 in rust, you've got a $500 truck.

Rust is expensive. Best thing I ever did was shop until I found a non-rusty truck. It wasn't a short bed, it wasn't a C10, but it was rust-free and I'm glad I went that way now!

Everyone. Let me thank you all for your input. It is invaluable. I did buy the truck. I’d rather not divulge the final price as I’m not a very shrewd negotiator but I will say that the forums thoughts on price were accurate, a great help and I’m happy to have it. I think I got a fair deal. Its an unmolested one owner (now 2) truck other than a few engine parts like fuel pump and radiator. Started up quicker than efi. Simultaneous with the key turn. Some rust yes but only small patches here and there. I hope to get started on cleaning it up and addressing the rust soon and I’ll post up some pics. Again. Thank you all so much.

I'd ask you to please reconsider that! And don't round down for your ego or pride, just tell us what you paid so that the NEXT guy can benefit from that information just like YOU did from all of our input!

I'll go first. I paid $6500 for my 1970 C2500 GMC Longhorn.

I'll go first. I paid $6500 for my 1970 C2500 GMC Longhorn.
I'm second. I paid $3,350 for my 72 Super C-20 402 /A/C. Lots of rust, but somewhat unmolested and some nice parts. Runs well, starts every time, but burns oil. Long story why, but it could have been $3200. Even 3K. Something tells me the OP spent about the same, just guessing.

I'd never done a brake job, so I paid 2K for a new brake system front to back. Had never done carb work and was somewhat misled into $700 for a new carb, filter and line from the pump. So 6K into a truck I probably couldn't sell for more than $3500. But I like it, so what the heck. Not for sale at the moment. I've owned it two years.

I paid $2800 for a one owner primarily unmolested/unrusted 71 SWB 402 / A/C with 96K miles. Course that was in 1989. I figure to have about 44K into it when done. What will it be worth? Heck I don't know. I figure at least the dollars I'll have into it. Sure wouldn't see much return on time, but it's not for sale anyway.

Win some lose some, but 67-72 are GREAT trucks.

That is a great price, I live in MN and I found a truck I wanted just for the complete AC, the front was smashed and it was missing the drive train, very rusty and the guy wanted $1500, you did well
