99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I few months ago i bought a 1999 2wd tahoe 4dr with 116,000 miles on it...Nice clean...but 100% stock..

It now has 118,000 miles on it..15 mpg average...not bad for a full size..suv..

I gave 1250 for it...was donated to the kidney foundation..100% of my money went there. to a great cause..

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I have to drill out the 60 big rivets gm used to hold the lower side ground efx on...wow they didnt want those to come off...

I would try and fix the 2000 but with salvage title and frame damage..its worth more in parts..Plus i am keeping the tahoe for alot of years ahead...so i will have extra engine/trans and rear..ect..

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I am selling the limited leather seats in the 88-98 parts section...

I am not going to use them...i like my cloth seats in the 99 better...

They are nice and hard to find seats..

I got the front clip off the 2000 today...will have more pics tomorrow

motor/trans and rear are coming out next..

The 2000 also is the Police package Z56 option... driveshaft...is different, the rear brakes are 11 inch ..

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I have all the drivetrain out and off...I will be rolling out the 2000 out of the shop tomorrow...I will post pics then..

Then its time to do exhaust and ground efx..on the grey 99...

I will post pics so you all can see how they were put on..

The police package on the limited includes 3/4 front brake calipers..that take a "370" pad instead of a "369" pad as the 1/2 does..

the rear has 11 inch drum brakes..borrowed from the suburban. GM should have put disc on the rear...come on a 2000 model with drum brakes...Its not 1970 anymore

They will get upgraded later

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I cried when I saw that wrecked Limited. Did you know they came with 3:42's and posi (G80)? I am curious, does it say Z56 on the spid label? Put as much of the Limited Suspension on your DD Tahoe as you can because will love the way it handles. I know what I'm talking about as I've had this Z56 for 3 years and can't wait to drive it every summer.

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

Yes 3.42 posi...but its the gov-lock...thats coming out..and a 91-96 caprice/roadmaster posi unit going in...same spline..and its the auburn clutch type posi...I have one in my 94 truck..it.does awesome..

11 rear drums and rear swaybar...

Z56 option..is there ...police brakes. (3/4) ton calipers..on 1/2 spindles..

370 pads instead of a 369 pad..

Rear is going in the 99 soon...The little brakes on the rear suck for towing...gm should have went disc on there models long ago..

I tried the 2000 ecm in the 99 and it would not even start? Is this because of the vin in the ecm?

I had 2 97 trucks here and swapped and it runs fine...?

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

This thing rocks I've never seen one before, with that cop suspension under it would be a blast to drive and it looks killer. If I got one I might do a color change. Maybe slap a supercharger under the hood. And the gmpp emissions legal 383.

Re: 99 Classic Tahoe 2wd 4dr custom project

I am going to go from the bottom body line down...black...leave the top grey..and put a stripe done on the piant line..and loose the mouldings ,and get a new front bumper from lmc..the cheapest i could find..with the air intake holes..and ,both black bumpers..and a black grille..

I put the sway bar on yesterday..and it does make a difference..

The limited was a 1 3/8 inch bar...the stock was 1 1/8 inch

exhaust is next...then ground efx while its on the lift..

I should have named this thread

"Project Battleship SS Tahoe" its battleship grey and its a battle out on the roads around here....

they cannot keep on there side on the centerline...on a 2 lane road..
