got the notches put in!

havent really worked on the truck in awhile but in the last two weekends, i upholstered the dash and door panels, lowered the front 2.5 and did a flip in the back, but my biggest acomplishment was building the notches for the back.

Did you do a rear flip yourself, or did the kit not come with the notches? Or something else?

well I bought a flip bracket off ebay and installed it, then I a 12"x12" 1/4" plate and a piece of 5" diameter pipe. and cut it in half. I wanted to bolt them in, because I will probably want to go lower later so I can just take those out easy and build a step notch. all in all about 50 bucks. oh and i got drop shocks from CPP for 40 bucks for the pair. So about 90 bucks for the back.

Could be mistaken, but I don't think anyone makes one for the K5's.

I could be mistaken, but I did not think the frame's were that radically different in the way they were made from a truck to a blazer to a suburban. I know they were different, but I thought the general area over the axle was the same. Like a c notch could be used with out any issue.

And that's a great looking blazer!

Maybe I am missing your meaning, but if you look at the pictures he posted, you can see the frame curves down in the area above the axle. The frame on a truck (and I assume a Sub') are flat through that area.
It's not that you can't use a notch, just that no one makes one, at least that I am aware of. If you know of a company offering them, please post a link!

I don't know man, most aftermarket truck notches go over the frame and use about double the number of bolts you have in yours...hopefully yours won't fail. Not saying it will, but just letting you know how the truck ones are built and installed.

I built it to mimick the universal ones. not the wrap around ones. I also plated the inside of the frame. so there is over a 1/2 inch of steel that those bolts are through. Now that you mention I have some material left over, I think im gonna weld it to the bottom so it wraps the bottom, and put a couple extra bolts there. Better safe then sorry. But failure is always an option, it is how we learn.

Good advice!

Notches such as these really do affect towing and load hauling capacities drastically, especially on leaf spring suspensions. If you aren't using your truck for towing or hauling purposes then no big deal.

I am not preaching, do what you like, I just want you to be aware of what these changes do to the strength of the frame.

Well I will not be towing at all, but sometimes i will have passangers in the back seat. Any feedback is good feedback, better than scrartching my head.

This is a flip kit, but it doesn't indicate a C-notch. I looked trhough both Summit and Jeggs before using my specific year and vehicle and didn't even come up with the filp-kit???

Yeah I am glad you are going to reinforce it. I just hate to see when people try and make something that the aftermarket may have, but then you hear a horrible story about a wreck or it messed up there truck more. Yeah the search was just a quick 2 minute search this morning after I just got off a 16 hour shift. The screen was all blurry so I did not read everything.

Not to hi-jack, but I just flipped the rear in my suburban and was thinking about using a notch of this style and had planned on doing some towing. Nothing really really heavy, just a smaller camper and the occasional car. Do you, or anyone, have any idea's on how to notch the frame and have it strong enough for towing. I also have some load leveling type air bags to add, if that factors into anyone advice. Thanks.

The best thing to do is weld it in, you can us a 6" pipe and cut it in half and then weld it in. Only cut what you need to on the frame, do not cut more then you need, it need to fit tite. Here is a pic.

I used McGaughy's C-10 notches and had a buddy of mine who does welding and metal fab modify them to work on the blazer frame here's a diagram and pics!
