installing a aftermarket radion in an 84

I have the oem radio in my 84, I'm wanting to put a aftermarket headunit in it. Is this possible? What all do I need to do? Also well new aftermarket speakers fit right in?

The best and easiest way to do it is to get an install kit from a local shop, or ebay. On the speakers, you have many options. You can replace stock ones with better aftermarket ones of the same size, or you can hack up the area and put whatever you want in.

Crutchfield is a good place to find what "fits" in your truck, but I usually buy my gear local and just use their site for reference.

One of my concerns was if the new headunit will fit in the stock hole... Seems like its smaller than the new headunits

Crutchfield shows one radio that will "fit" my truck but they sell a dash kit. Will the dash kit allow for any radio to fit with out cutting the panel

The dash kit either replaces the panel or becomes part of it. I haven't done anything with a square body, but it looks like the dash kit works with the stock panel. You will likely have to remove or cut something, but the kit will make it easier and look better.

i put in a single din deck into my 80 c10, and your gonna have to cut. plastic and everything, i also used a dash kit. Your still gonna have to cut, a lot!. You will also have to make custom brackets to hold the back of the radio up, at least i had to.
