700r4 rebuild kit question

Anyone ever use this rebuild kit for a 700r4 rebuild? Thoughts?

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

165 sold on eBay. Review the feedback.......

Depends on how you plan on using your 700r4. If you are a weekend warrior and a DIYer on your own vehicle most likely this eBay item may work for your wallet or purse.

I use bonded pistons in all my 700r4 builds along with red eagle clutches, upgraded steels. Along with several other things not found in your banner/master kit sold by trans part companies.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

Read through the post 700r4 build, Clinebarger posted a lot of good info on that. He recommends only borgwarner high energy clutches, or the raybestos. Especially in the 3-4 clutch.

I am going to be building one soon and I am going with BorgWarner high energy in the 3-4 clutch and Alto reds in all the other clutches. But I an building mine to handle 700hp, Sonnax smart input drum with shaft, 5 pinion planteries, sonnax smart shell, and whole bunch of other improvements, maybe even 2.84 gear.

If you want a good 700r4 rebuild don't cheap out on the parts.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

A buddy built mine for me also for 700 hp. I had about $1500 just in parts. I hope to have it in in the next couple of weeks. B&M Lockup, Bowtie TV kit.

Wow 1500 bucks. For that amount you could of eliminated the tv cable.

That sounds about the right price range. Your avatar shows a pic of tranny so you must do a few rebuilds, heck a good t/q will cost some good money.

I heard that the full pressure valve bodies are hard on the pump and the T/V cable route is still the way best way to go. Have you heard that or have any experience with the full pressure valve body?

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

Not everyone has 700hp so the rebuild kit mentioned above may work for others that have stock engines.

As far as the VB mentioned I would use it if you have 700hp. At 700hp the vehicle most likely is not your every day vehicle. A stock build would not require 1500 bucks for parts and referring to the start of the thread no mention of 700hp.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

I don't have 700 hp either. I am planning on 400 in the future but also setting the truck up for pulling my 28 foot camper trailer. Build strong so I only have to do it once. A stock 700r4 out of the junkyard new fluid flushed with filter should last years if set up right for normal driving.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

The thread was about a rebuild kit. Not sure how we go from spending 1500 bucks to support 700hp to making a junk yard unit last forever if setup right
What rebuild kit did your buddy use to rebuild your trans to handle up to 700 hp. Did you go with 5 pinion front and rear planets ? Any bushing upgrades ?

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

That is just it nobody knows, the OP has not chimed back in. I was just saying that if you are building for big HP it is going to cost and don't cheap out. That kit he is looking at looks Ok, but have I never heard of the alto HEG. You don't want to cheap out on the 3-4 clutch. The reviews looked good.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

There is more to just adding good clutches into the 3/4 clutch pack.

Just wanted to know from Rick Bollinger what parts his buddy put into his 700r4 that totaled 1500 bucks for parts. What kit did he use. List of parts used would be great to know.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

When I get to my shop I will grab a list. I am not a transmission man at all but I do kinda remember him saying going with a corvette servo and replacing I think 2 others with steel ones instead of the original aluminum ones. And getting a couple of different clutch packs of different thicknesses to get the proper clearances. Getting a upgraded valve plate. I will try to get the list tomorrow. I do know that there are quite a few parts left over from using what he wanted to out of each kit.

Would like to see how others build 700r4’s to support 700 hp. What I have seen on this here forum is most use 4L80’s to support there big horsepowered trucks.
Thanks.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

Also interested, but here is my plan so far and could change here are some of the parts that I am using, sure I am missing something.

1990 700r4
Sonnax smart tech input housing with billet input shaft
sonnax heavy duty smart shell
sonnax super hold 4th and 2nd servo kit
gm 5 pinion front and rear planetary from 4l75e(no Chinese one's)
new reverse input housing
red altos frictions, with kolene steels
3-4 clutch, with 9 fibers borg warner high enegery with kolene steels.
extra wide 2-4 band
trans go spacer plate
trans go reprogram kit with .500 boost valve kit
Hardened steel pump rings
t/q unknown yet(maybe fti)

This is going behind a 454 about 580-620hp. Not sure it will hold up or not. Looked in the 4l80's but just don't want anything electronic.

Re: 700r4 rebuild kit question

in all my years of building transmissions I have never seen a life time warranty on a trans rebuild kit someone is going to go broke...… or someone is going to find out the hard way about the warranty...… I can see it, two years later the 3/4 frictions go out of the 700r4 again.... get me another kit....NOT FOR FREE ! Bernie Sanders cant even get that for FREE !!!!!!!!
