Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Keep looking. I know someone makes the correct hoses.
I sold auto parts for 13 years, from 1985-1998. With all the different brands of brake parts we carried over the years, none of them made the hoses for the C-10 or C-20, 1971,72 (1970, disc was an option). I'm guessing that all the parts manufacturers crunched the numbers and decided not to make those hoses, for that 2-3 year period. Not enough potential sales.
I need to get a couple of sets for my stuff, also. I know a couple of my buddies have found them. I will try to find out, Asap...
I have a 67 and a 68, both not running/functioning. I refuse to EVER drive them w/ drum brakes, life's too short.

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Just take the clips off the hose you have in the picure and it should fit.

Thanks for the link. I am on the look out for an original set of hoses to copy, I wonder if brakequip would reuse the original ends or add their own that are close?

The clip does come off, but with the clip removed on that side it pushes straight thru the bracket. It needs something on both sides holding the hose end to the truck.

they would use new ones. They have a vast assortment of ends to choose from. I have their catalog. we were going to become dealers but the machine was $7500 so we changed our mind

That is what I figured. They might be able to match something up, I sure wish I had my original rubber lines.

Just checked with Manes today and they offer the same hoses as the other vendors. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem?

LMC sent me some pics of their C20 brake hoses and they are wrong also. I cannot believe it is this hard to find the correct hoses.

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

I list BH380712 as front right, and BH380713 as front left. Both for 71-72 C10's. For some reason I do not list front hoses for 71-72 C20's or C30's.

I do list a BH79339 for 71-72 K10's and K20's but nothing for K30's.

Calipers for the 4wd are the same, while the 2wd calipers are different part numbers depending on half ton, 3/4 ton, etc.

I woupd rather get my parts from my shop, warranty, discount, etc... Is there a chance that 73 C20, or C30 calipers and hoses would fit? Those I have in stock.

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Help! Zombie thread. I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, because it walks again. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Just got off the phone from inlinetube, after ordering a set of flex for my 72 C20. The rear and right fit, but the left was too short. Inline said its a problem, they don't have a fix for it. I'll be returning the set.

Who has had luck getting rubber brake hoses? 71 was when they started running front disc brakes, so anything prior won't work. Classic says they have a set of stainless. NAPA, AZ, O'Reilleys, etc don't show the 72 C20 in the books for brake hoses.

Gonna check local fab shops, see if the ends are available to make a set.

Thanks for the help,

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Nobody can fab these lines. Called Manes in KC and they could not tell me how old the hose set they have is. Still looking for front brake caliper hoses for a 72 C20. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

I see Speedway Motors offers a brake line kit for the 66-77 GM. Has anyone had any dealings with them?

Here's the item I found:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Rubber...-20,25623.html

Stainless:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/DOT-Br...-20,36151.html

Thanks for any insight!

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Here's what the end product looks like. I had to cut the old clip tabs, weld in the new ones that were provided with the kit. I haven't put pressure to them, yet. But I like the way it looks.

The brake lines aren't canted from the caliper, so they mount at the 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock position, left and right. The lines are longer, and that's a good thing. It takes up the slack to loop the line back forward towards the front cross member.

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

At the caliper. Excuse the 30 years of gunk on the one side.

I'll add to this post, if there are any issues. The lines are in, and I like the way they sit. Speedway sells the two line kit for what other places want for just one.

Make sure to get the adapter, for the left side. Adapter fitting # 9103183-3/8. For reasons unclear to me, the female barrel fittings are different sizes, left to right. The tubing is the same size. That's why you only need one of them.

Cheers,

Nomad

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

Nomad, good info here, thanks.

I'm in the same situation. I did a 72 C20 cross member swap into my 62 C20 and when I went looking for front brake hoses I too found they don't exist new. Maybe somewhere there is a stash of NOS hoses. That is about as new as you'll get.

All of the vendors out with listings for C20 brake hoses do not carry the correct hose. And I called them all. I don't think it is right for them to sell someone a brake hose they should know won't fit.

I bought a complete brake hardline kit from In-Line Tube, including their rubber brake hoses they listed for a 71-72 C20. Here is a photo of the hose I received from them next to the correct hose for a 71-72 C20 and 30.
Name: brake hose 2.jpg
Views: 438
Size: 32.0 KB

You can see why the new hose does not fit the cross member bracket. The hexed area in front of the c-clip is too thin to fit into the bracket far enough to get the retaining U-clip inserted. These kinds of parts are In-Line Tube's bread and butter and even they didn't know there was a difference. At least that is what is they told me after I sent them the above photo.

Your fix looks like a good one.

Re: 1972 C20 Disc brake front hoses

I'm in the same boat I fear. After installing drop spindles with my already cut coils, the stock hoses are too short.

I'll probably have to go custom route unless there is some sort of extender kit out there.
