Found a truck

It's a 51 chev, no bed, but does have rear fenders, solid cab, has been blasted, all the frt end except grill. Frame has been blasted, TCI Mus 2 frt end with disc, TCI 4 link with a 8.5 limited slip 10 bolt out of a Camaro. Suppose to have solid doors with all the other stuff in boxes. I haven't gone to look, just talked to the guy, but he wants $3800. I didn't really want to put that much in it right now, but the trk is solid, Florida trk, and with all the suspension stuff and not having to weld panels for 6 mths, it may be worth it. What do you think?

Re: Found a truck

From what I see on prices of this TCI stuff, this truck should be worth the money. Give me some opinions here! Some of this stuff is new to me, but the front end looks like a nice piece. Going to look at it later this week.

Re: Found a truck

You couldn't buy a truck and do all of that for the amount he is asking, and you will save a lot of build time if it's all done well and the cab is in decent shape. Sometimes a phone description is quite different from reality though, so you will have to see it to make a decision.

Re: Found a truck

I know Russel, but this guy owns a body shop and is a pretty straight up guy. The only reason he decided to sell it is he bought a 39 chev PU, and a 67 Nova wagon. He's really wanting to start on the 39. I'll know later this wk.

Re: Found a truck

Well the front end most likely would cost between 2k and 2700 sitting in boxes. I couldn't come up with a price for the rear suspension but they aren't cheap either. It looks like he is selling the suspension with an almost free truck fastened to it.

If the workmanship is good and the body and parts that are there are pretty decent you might be ahead of the game to buy it and go a bit over the start budget but be able to work on it quite a while without laying out big chunks of cash. Most of us either save for months for a front or rear suspension or spend those same months paying the plastic off after buying said piece.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Found a truck

That's what I'm thinking. I was going with a clip on the front, but the tci looks good. It's already set up for sb. The rear 4 link from what I've seen is $1000.

Re: Found a truck

Fitting the front end up with the Crossmember in place rather than a clip is a whole lot easier and cleaner too. You just have to make a little bit of clearance for the A arms rather than do a ton of cutting and fitting on nice inner front end sheet metal to clear the stub.

Re: Found a truck

buying a basket case always has problems associated with it.
first off; do i have all the baskets?
how many parts didn't he include that are hanging forgotten in the rafters

then you have to look at the quality of the work.
owning a bodyshop means nothing, sometimes they only do fast but cheap

Re: Found a truck

I guess a better question is do YOU have the money to finish it?
What's your realistic time-line to getting it done?
No one wants to be the second guy to NOT finish a project...

If you want to drive now, buy a road worthy truck and work on it as you go.

Re: Found a truck

Bought it, don't have no dead line, got the chevelle to drive around. Never started nothing I didn't finish. Not bragging, just always was real stubborn. Don't have a lot of money, but I'll do it like I did drag racing, spend when I can. Just wanted a project I can work on when I have time. Since I don't race anymore I have nothing to do to help me relax, this will help. Plus I blame all this on you guys and girls, denee007, I always wanted a old chevy truck and then I found this site, couldn't help myself after that.

Be careful what you tell these folks, as they do NOT forget, and they will make you finish your project, and another and another !!!!

Re: Found a truck

I'll get my daughter over here and figure out the pic thing. I need to do it anyway. Right now it's stored all over. First thing is to get the cab done and in epoxy primer.
