1974 CCSB build
Since I finally did something with my truck (besides let is sleep in my driveway), I figured I should start a thread, since it is actually a build now. I am still a little undecided on the exact course it will take, but have a few things already out of the way. I do know that it will end up 1/2 ton, lowered, on 20's, short bed, and with an LS swap, since I already have all of this. The main part I am unsure of is color and interior. I have wanted a CCSB for years, and found the perfect truck on CL locally. Since this is a Cheyenne Super, I am torn between making it look original (with the exception of drop and wheels) or just debadging it and making it slick. Decisions, decisions. Anyhow, here are some pics.

I've been kinda leaning that way. I have an entire SWB trim set in my attic, and the rear door stuff here is pretty decent. One of the main things I don't have in my favor is the doors. They are hammered. I have a really clean replacement set, but they have the 81- up interior trim. The interior in my orange '74 ended up pretty sharp, I may do something similar here. Not quite original, but a decent mix. Still trying to figure out a color that will just pop here.

Cool truck. Another vote for leaving the trim here. I bet removing that bumper just subtracted another 2 seconds from the quarter mile.

The pics make the paint look better than it is. There is almost none left on the roof, and the doors and fenders are pretty rusty. I have a really nice set of doors off of a '90 Suburban for it, the only downside is that they use the larger door panels. The bed floor was almost gone, but the bedsides are really pretty decent. The rust spots are in kind of weird places for this truck. Of course, the lower fenders are gone, and there is rust under the windshield in the corner, but the floors and rockers are pretty much spotless. There is a spot of rust through at the top of each corner of the door nearest the center pillar, but those should be easy. The main selling point of the truck to me was that the cab was pretty much rust free. I had access to pretty much everything else.
My wife is thinking the truck should be dark blue. I thought about the original color, and even getting a wrap done in woodgrain for in between the trim. That would probably look good with the original color, but I don't know how much I like the color. Looking at the '74 dealer brochures, none of the original colors just jump out at me. |

Keep the OE 74 exterior look & update the interior.
Orrrr............. Since swapping doors = painting the inside & out, you could always do a 'reverse skin' on the doors & use the good side (interior side) of the OE 74 doors & splice them to the newer doors & utilize the 74 interior panels. Just depends on how anal you wish to be.  Will you need/want a notched x-member for this one? Prob have 1/2 ton spindles & stuff if you need 'em as well as big brakes too....

Right on! Glad you're still in the game! Skin the 74 doors, it ain't that hard. I like the blue and white and (ack!) OG trim idea. Whose 20's? Billet Specialties Legends with knockoffs would look awesome on it. Is the white bed in the background destined for this one? PB? Sectioned xmember? Z'ed frame? This is gonna be awesome.

The current '74 doors are doo doo. Somewhere along the line someone got a little excited with spray foam, and attacked the doors and fenders with it. I was thinking about putting the inner skins on and using the original door panels, but that might end up being more work than I am interested in. Besides, my new doors were free (my favorite!!).
