Dash light?
So I recently purchased my 1972 C10.
Last night I drove it for the first time in the dark and when I switched the lights on a red warning light came on at the top of the speedometer. I also noticed no headlights, I went over a bump and the lights came on and the warning light went off but was intermittent through my journey. Any ideas? |

check the plug on the dimmer switch on the floor// the red warning light was probally the indicator that the high beams were on

Sounds like a loose connection at the dimmer or a bad dimmer. A bad electrical part, or loose connection, can act up intermittently. When the dimmer goes bad it often only works on dim since that is the portion it is left in most all the time. It could be corrosion due to the hi-beam side left open for so long. Do the lights work at all on hi-beam? The switches are cheap enough. It sounds like time for one of those, but check connections first

Similar issue I've had. I had the high beams on, hit a dip and lost the driver side headlight. I hit the dimmer switch and both lights began to work. I pulled over and found the plug at the lamp itself was the problem. Gave it a little push and the high beams have been working since.

That foot mounted dimmer switch can take a beating! Looks like you're in good hands with those who've already commented. I don't have much to offer other than I had similar issues and it was indeed, the dimmer switch.
