Door chime hate

Sorry if this has been discussed, I'm not on the 99-06 forums very often.

We are original owners of an otherwise AWESOME 2003 Yukon XL 2500 with 8.1/4L85E/4.10 and a Bose audio system. Is there any way to disable that AWFUL door/key chime? You can't even look at this truck without that obnoxious DING DING DING!! Can't take it any more. Please help!

Re: Door chime hate

I don't know of anyway to disable it unless you remove the stock radio and install a aftermarket head unit. Just don't install the module that some install kits include for the chime stuff. Lol my 96 has the annoying constant buzzing, you got it easy!!

Are you talking about that little fan above your head? Temp sensor or whatever it is. Yeah, my 06 buzzes up there too and i just keep the radio volume up enough to cover it.

Re: Door chime hate

On a superduty I had someone had taken the steering column cover off and removed the little wire and plastic/brass piece that sensed the key, it never dinged unless you opened the door with the lights on and ignition off, which I really appreciated.

Thanks, thats a great idea! I will have to look into whether there's something like that on the GMC.

You have to remember that the PK3 ignition system has to sense the key and be able to retrieve the key code for startup.

That could make things more challenging. On my Super Duty there as a little spring that the key contacted, I think it grounded out through the key to complete the dinger circuit.

Pickle, Does yours stop if you pull the key half way out?

Re: Door chime hate

If you have access to a tech 2 you can go in and change the chime level. I can't remember if it can be turned off completely though. But like I said above its in the radio.
