ill check for you tomorrow if i remember. and im assuming they are just passenger car tires. overall tire height is 26"

^^^scratching that idea most likely due to my buddy having about 2 months of work ahead of him before he would be able to get started on a crossmember for me.

current plan: 2" Z to lay the frame flat and using 2"x4" to do a SFBD. going to put the tubing in the bottom of the frame, cut the top of the stock frame off, and move the body mounts down.

question for you guys, i only need roughly 1" of body drop to lay rocker but 2x4 is several inches shorter (height wise) then the stock frame. should i over body drop so i can be another 1" or so into the rocker? give me input and insight on that please.

well heres the progress from today:

got the front clip and wiring loom off. also sealed up all open lines


got the interior cleaned out, seat out and doors off.


also the bed unbolted, air management out and most of the air line and wiring loom clamps removed.


plan for tomorrow is to get the cab and bed off. if im lucky the motor/tranny out also.

progress from today. first i got the cab and bed raised off of the frame. cab fell once and landed on my distributor. ill see at some point if i damaged it.



then i got the motor and tranny pulled.



got the motor on the stand


i have a few questions about my tranny, its a TH350 btw. first, when i pulled it what im assuming was water came out of the lines, any ideas why? then next, where the kick down cable bolts to the tranny, the hole is stripped. how would i fix it?

picked up a 20' stick of 2"x4" .188 wall to start the SFBD!

well i had the intensions of getting the frame going on the chevy this weekend BUT i drug a hole in my gas tank in the yota. i did pick up a 20' stick of 1/2" X 1/2" tubing for the chevy to use as frame braces to keep it square during surgery.

i patched the gas tank with JB weld, then raised it. also put bolts in the upper control arms, lol.

well i got really lucky and came across a free parts truck. going to take the bed, bumper, tail lights, tail gate, interior parts, door handles, radiator, and much more. going to get started on it tomorrow.

well ive been lazy about updating this. got the truck down to bare frame and started the SFBD

frame all on its own


built a frame for the cab but its to flimsy. lol!


then got the frame on my buddies s10 with just us two. it was a b!%@%h!


its new home. yes! that is a garage. im so stoked to be able to work on it regardless of the weather. also have any tools id ever need at my disposal.


got the first side mocked up


then lots of trimming and test fitting


got both sides tacked in by the end of sunday night.


should be working on it 2-3 days a week from now on. probably going to have my buddy build a crossmember after all and maybe arms too. boxing in most of the frame and im tempted to re bag the rear already. time will tell i guess.

Is there a reason you ran 2x4 inside
the frame instead of just using like 1/4'' and boxing it? Build is looking great!!

Cool just wondering I used my tube chassis on my rock crawler to hold antifreeze, you could set it on fire and not get it to 220.

got a couple hours of work in on the frame tonight

first i cut the top portion off and pie cut the frame section in front.


brought the top frame section down to make the frame a consistent slope


close up




both sides tacked up


heres the next little trick


second side came out cleaner, always works out that way.


bam!

did work today!

welded in these filler pieces first


then these for the front


also welded up the pie cut front portion


then the inside


next i sanded down everything.




then i welded up the front section of the 2x4" to the stock frame. the bottom portion has about a 1/2" gap and was a mission to weld up.






then i started welding the 2x4" to the stock frame, the top portion. i did 3-4" stitch welds alternating from left side to the right frame rail. (some of the decent beads)




this is from the first pass


got it all welded up on the top by the end of the day




and this is my new daily, traded my bagged yota for it. now i have the best of both worlds
