Square-Body Military Blazer junkyard score

Got lucky and found the remains of a military Blazer in the junkyard this week!
Got the two 15x8 wheels off it, skid plate and cross member, factory exhaust hangers, rear leaf springs, and most interesting--the front and rear leaf spring hangers and shackles: They were BOLT ON, not riveted.
I've never seen that before... only thing I can think is they were bolt-on to simplify repairs in the field.
I also got the front cross member/sway bar mount, and the passenger door was mint.
All the chassis parts are going to make their way onto my '62 K10 build.
The rear leafs will go on the front of my truck, and the hangers/core support mounting brackets look like they're going to bolt on 4 inches forward of the stock perches now, solving another problem: centering the axle in the wheel opening.
The wheels were the most expensive part, at $30 each (!), but they completed my set of 5. Door was $60, and all the rest was $40.

Engine and front axle were out of it.
Still had the auto trans, and T-case... T-case was surprisingly small, actually.
Smaller rear differential, non-posi, though it had big brakes.
Dual exhaust.
And it had twin battery mounts--and those trays were surprisingly big.

I’m pretty sure all the military blazers were still 6 lug stuff Likely Gm 10 bolt with th350/700r4 and the 208 case. I’ve never seen a 60 under one. The Military k30’s had all the good Stuff, 60,205,4:88’s and lockers.

Re: Square-Body Military Blazer junkyard score

m1009 was 6.2 diesel and th400/208 combo with 10 bolt's and 3.08 with G-80 gov-loc rear std posi for both civi and m1009 use . only the trucks got the TRUE detroit locker in the rear with 4.56 gears and some service body trucks got a front spicer trac-lok light duty posi in the 60 front axle .

as to the all bolt on brackets someone had played with that blazer frame before . they were std rivet to the frame as normal civi brothers got . i just built a m1009 over a year ago and it was all rivet .

good score on the part and the wheels i hear are hard to find and worth a lot of coin .

started life as a m1009 . then police blazer . then highway dept parts runner . then private sold and this guy purchased it and gave me a PILE of parts to toss at it . she now rolls on a 6.5" total lift 4" tuff country HD front springs and 1" zero rate with axle 1.5" forward . light duty 56" 8leaf rear springs with 2 leafs pulled to level out and 4" shackle flip from ORD . 1ton m1008 axles and lock-right locker up front . crossover steering . old school custom winch bumper and 10k ramsey worm gear winch with 100ft of 3/8" line . power is a built 400sbc/nv4500-205 twin stick combo . she rolls on 37x12.50x17 F/S mud tires . she goes so smooth down the highway even up to around 90mph and as you can see she flexes out good in the trails and play time.

Re: Square-Body Military Blazer junkyard score

I have seen 350 turbos with 205's as that was the combination I had in my 86 toyota and I am pretty sure that combo was available in 78 as I bought a new one. For square bodies -----the 700r4 did not come out in a vette until I believe 1982. I know they were availble in the 1984 vette. So I agree, could have been a 400 or 350 or 700 and a 208 or a 205. I do not know if the 203 was offered in a Blazer. 8-)

Re: Square-Body Military Blazer junkyard score

All CUCV Blazers are 400/208 transfer case and 10 bolts with 3.08 years
All 1008 -1010 and 1028 trucks were 400/208 transfer cases with 14 bolt rear and Dana 60 fronts
The 1031 maintenance trucks and the dually truck were the only 400/205 transfer case

THIS is accurate despite how hard anyone tries to convince themselves or others. If it's not this, someone has altered it.
