Man I really despise the internet at times... Just when ya think you've got it all planned out, something comes along to make you say, "Hmm, that looks good".....



This is exactly what happened to me today - strolling along on the net & came across a shot of a truck somewhat similar to my Daughter's with a set of 20" Dodge Ram spare tire wheels on it.

I personally think they'd look really good on there (better than the 15" stock style would) - not so much in that factory color per say, just the overall appearance & fact that they're 20" wheels. It's also something that isn't on everyone else's truck out there!

If I went with something like that it'd require running adapters since they are the 5x5.5 bolt pattern rather than my stock 5x5 set-up. Kind of would like to do this anyhow as I have the issue with the different thread rear studs & also dislike the way the factory rear track width is narrower than the front is in these trucks - I could get thicker spacers for the rear.

She still wants "red" wheels, so I could easily have these powder coated to match the "GMC" trim we've got & then maybe get a flat black pin strip along the lip or something to set-it off a little since it's so much larger.

Also would most likely end up running some stock type GMC center caps - the chrome ones that are held in place by the lug covers.

Guess I'd like any opinions from the group on which they think would look the best.

if you could incorporate the gmc dog dishes on them i dont think it would look bad at all, and your daughter would be the only one im pretty sure with that set up. the only thing i am wondering about is how the round holes would look instead of the GM factory slits with the hub caps?

My truck, (pictured above) has redrilled front rotors and 1-1/4" spacer/adapters on the rear. While it had the truck rearend under it, it put the rear track even with the front or at least very close to it. Now with the narrower Caprice rear it's closer to how a stock truck is, even with the spacer/adapters. I also ground some out of the lug holes on some factory rally center caps to fit the 5.5-1/2" bolt circle.

Nice to now my truck is inspiring people

I've always been partial to the wheel vintiques large diameter rally's. The link is for a website that shows retail pricing, I am sure you could get them for a little less from wheel vintiques, but you could choose any 7" center and they make them in 5x5 and up to 18" diameters.

Sorry to "steal" your pic man, saw it on FB actually - but just really like the look & even commented on there about it too! Hadn't even thought of just re-drilling the front rotors - going with a set from SSBC along with their pads - maybe the even sell a 5x5.5 set that would work - hmmm....

Noticed that you had ground out the holes from a stock center cap in another pic. Was thinking of maybe modifying a stock Dodge truck center cap by machining out the center & installing a factory GMC center cap insert too.

Yeah, I thought it was you on FB. One of my friends said something about maybe using a dodge cap, and the more looking I did after getting the caprice rear I noticed that with the rally caps these wheels look like the 9C1 cop car wheels just bigger.

Been researching more into using these wheels. Contacted a company I found online about maybe getting a set of front rotors made with the correct bolt pattern so I won't need to drill them or use a spacer.

Also found a set of factory Dodge black center caps that I like. Gotta find out if I can machine out the center to fit in a chrome GMC Acadia insert. Will keep at it & hope it all works out right!

That's a horrible pic of the center cap insert I want - this one does it a bit more justice. The lettering is also the same color I want the wheels to be.

If these Dodge wheels go with the modern train of design on backspacing, I imagine they will be pretty sucked in to the wheel wells or even rubbing if you have the rotors and axles redrilled. The truck in the pic has adapters I believe, and the wheels are still pretty sucked in. I think adapters may actually be your friend here, and will leave you open to options other than Dodge/Ford wheels in the future if she wants a different look.

Yeah, may have a good point there... Definitely would like to fill the wheel wells as much as possible! Spacers would be the easiest way to go - just don't particularly like using them on the fronts if I can avoid it.

Lest we never forget that children must be spoiled equally - even though my Son does not have the interest in the kinds of vehicles I do, nor the desire to know how to work on them - he still gets his own perks...

Picking this up for him while I am home this time before he heads off to college (he graduates high school on the 25th of May) - got the new Motegi wheels on it, the windows tinted & a Magnaflow exhaust installed. Still waiting for the dual offest stripes to get installed before delivery on May 18th.

Once I get home we'll be installing a Steeda strut tower bar, a Boesch Built intake & an engine cover to dress it up a bit. At least that way he'll have his hands on it a little bit - who knows, maybe that'll spark something...

Yep, that's my plan! Probably going to try to get a flat black stripe near the lip though just to break it up a bit - they are kind of large & that's a lot of "reddish-orange"...

Found a company that makes the spacers I need & have them in 1.3" I can use in the front & 2.0" for the rear!!!

The wheels have 5-3/8" of backspacing. If you go with a 4/6 drop or lower it's a good thing, if it's going to be higher than that I would go with the spacers/adapters. I don't have any issues with rubbing or contact on the backside of the wheels either.

Got the bed off really easily luckily!

Put her to work cleaning off the frame right away & once I got the axle out she started grinding away!!!

Hoping we'll get the cleaning done tomorrow & start painting the frame & installing the lowering parts.

Leaf springs are going to the machine shop tomorrow for the bushing replacement & then some fresh paint for them as well.
