Re: Iced Green dream

Made some progress the last 2 days while the wife was at work. I purchased a freshly rebuilt posi rear end out of a 72 C10 for $100 bucks a month or 2 ago. I took it to the rear end shop to have them look it over anyways and it turned out to need axle bearings. Had it powder coated while they fixed it.

I finally received my rear strong arm suspension and was able to get it installed over the weekend. The system was an excellent fit as usual from Air Ride, however the holes in the c-notches were a little off from the holes in the frame. It could have been my measurements, but they worked out great in the end. I just had to bore the holes out a little.

I plan on bringing my frame home in the next 2 weeks so I can tinker on it during the week and weekends at home. Right now it's at my parents house 1 hour away. Regular unleaded is now 4.19 a gallon in Sonora, so no more weekend trips if I can help it. Next up will be the air ride management and setting the motor and trans back in. I need to work some more overtime

Re: Iced Green dream

Hi neighbor! I'm in Hughson, CA. Very nice build. It looks alot like my old 69 before it got stolen from the CSU Stanislaus parking lot. Mine was a LWB, though.
Keep up the awsome work.

Thanks, the truck is actually in Waterford at my parents house. I will be bringing home the chassis this weekend to Sonora and leaving the cab and bed in Waterford so I can do the bodywork there. Stan State seems to be the hot spot for stolen cars, after all Stanislaus county leads the nation in auto theft. I had a 67 Mustang stolen from Modesto when I was in high school.

Small world! My restoration is right down the road from Waterford on Weyer Road near the Fruityard restaurant; I too am doing my bodywork at my parents house. I'll keep an eye on your progress.

Hey it's good to see someone else from the central valley on the board. Nice build, I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

One of these days we need to have a central valley meet. My buddy "operator engineer" is also on the board and his 70 is almost ready to hit the road again. My cousin just finished a 55, and my Dad has his 49. I did not realize how many locals there was around here.

Thanks Josh, that means a lot coming from you. I am a big fan of your work......who knows, maybe we can meet up one day at a car show when our trucks are on the road. Again thanks for the compliment.

Re: Iced Green dream

I started to finish my motor so I can hook my tranny back up and set them in the frame. I decided to go for a classic, but modern look if that makes any sense. I like the look of new engines with no polishing needed, but not all the clutter and mess. I think I found the best of both worlds with the new Edelbrock stuff. I bought a new manifold and my valve covers are on the way. I'm trying to get the perfect combo of brushed aluminum and black. I dont want my motor to look like I taped off the carb and spray painted the whole thing black.

I know I'm going with the Edelbrock AVS carb and the air cleaner that matches the valve covers, but I cant decide on the small parts like the Thermostat housing and pulleys. Anodized black housings and pullys are available but that may be too much black. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I am a NASCAR fan but for some reason IMO that NASCAR emblem on the intake makes it look like I won it by saving my Marlboro miles for 6 years. I think I'm going to remove the emblem, or somehow black that part out. I will have finshed before and after pics this weekend.

Re: Iced Green dream

I like those air gap manifolds. Unfortunatly I can't run that on my 79 Burb cuz it still has to pass smog! But my 74 shorty is going to get whatever I feel like putin on it. I hate CA smog laws it is costing me way to much money for the new engine I'm building for the Burb all cuz the parts have to have the stupid C.A.R.B E.O. number. To bad I got most of my engine for the Burb before I got the 74 or it would be gettin all the love. I could have built a bad a$$ engine and tranny for what I have in the 79's engine alone.

Of course my 70 does not need smog, but the good thing about living in Sonora is you only have to smog when you purchase a used vehicle. After that initial smog, you can do whatever you want.

I totally agree with you. We NEED to have board meet here in the valley. I'm here in Ceres and am also glad to see other local folks that share the same passion for trucks. Greetings to everyone else worldwide. MisterE.
P.S. I got my stainless inline kit last week!!

They are so strict about smog down here in the valley. But you can see why the way all that smoke from those fires last week just settled in and wouldn't dissapate. That just shows why there are so many people with respratory problems here.

Re: Iced Green dream

got my motor cleaned up. As you can see in the before and after pics, quite a difference. I still need to buy a carb and bolt the valve covers down but you get the idea............next up is the tranny. I'm going to clean up my turbo 350 I took out. It was in great shape when I took it out, just going to replace some seals and clean it up. I still have not decided on what pully system I am going to use, but I am a ways away from starting this thing so I have plenty of time to decide.

Hopefully I can get it put back in soon so it wont take up as much space in my garage, I'm somewhat of a neat freak. My wife makes fun of me because I'm the only one on the block that mops his garage floor. Can you say OCD?
