WTB Tires

Next year I will have to buy new tires for the old girl. I'm running 16.5s but since I am almost clean out of options, I plan to swap them out for 16s.

I am looking for something along the lines of LT265/75R16E.

I am currently running 9.5B16.5F, a cheap but very stout bias ply.

I've been shopping around for some time and I just can't decide on the best tire for heavy loads, pulling heavy trailers or both on very long stretches, a lot of cross-country running.

When I drove big-trucks, I prefered Yokos and I wonder if paying the price is worth it for my little truck, too.

Thoughts?

Re: WTB Tires

I'd get some nice Michelins from Costco. I got some for my car, and it was a good experience. Got a screw in my tire on a vacation in California. Wasn't hard to find a Costco and get it repaired for free. When my current truck tires wear out, I plan to go with Michelins at Costco

Re: WTB Tires

Do you have any issues with Michelins dry rotting in a short time? My Hyundais came stock with them and I always had to get them warrantied for dry rot and now Hyundai doesn't even use them. In between moves, my truck only does local hauling and when I'm overseas, it sits a lot if my wife doesn't run it.

They ride great so if their truck tires are any different, I wouldn't mind trying them.

That's news to me, and I've had Michelins on other vehicles for years. Do you use tire shiner? Maybe switch brands, or start using a good one. Another thing you can do is cut some tire covers out of plywood, and prop them up while it's parked for a while

Re: WTB Tires

Michelin LTX M/S2's all the way.
They may be priced high, but they're well worth it.
They wear like hockey pucks, but they ride like a Cadillac - well like a Cadillac truck.

Re: WTB Tires

Good stuff, everyone can't be wrong.

I looked up the LTX M/S2 and was pretty impressed on the reviews.

How do they hold up to different loads: heavy, light, none or with large trailers (10,000#+)

Anyone have any info on the ideal pressures to maintain, etc?

If you get the Load Range E (about $30 more per tire) you'll have no issues with a 10,000 lb trailer. And when you do that you can run the max 80 psi in the back.
I don't tow with mine but I run 50 psi all the way around and it rides and wears great.

Re: WTB Tires

Right now I run Load Range F but my next set will be E. Normally empty I run 50psi in the back and 70 in the front to compensate for no power steering. You have me thinking now...

Re: WTB Tires

Another vote for Michelins. The extra cost (over Yokos) is well worth it IMO as you will get much longer service from Michelins. I have LTX AT2s on my '05 Tacoma and have been very happy with them.
