Stock single exhaust diameter for a v8 350

[57rookie]

1971 350 bone stock. Has single stock exhaust.
What is the pipe diameter at the muffler?????? My guess is 2.5" but I dont have the right measuring tool to know and I thought someone would know the specs.
My thought is for now I would cut of original muffler and put a bottle type good flowing/sounding muffler in its place. Any recommendations are also welcome.

I can't answer your question, but you can measure it. Take a strip of paper, string, fishing line, whatever, and wrap it around the pipe, marking the end on the wrap. Remove, and measure with a ruler and divide by PI - 3.14. If it is 2.5", the strip will be ~ 7-7/8 shy. 2.25 = 7-1/16", 2=6-1/4 strong.

I outgrew loud a long time ago. Stock quiet is my preferred muffler.
