Camero Z28 or just Camero?

I'm looking at buying a 1981 running Camero to drive now then use as parts on my 1957 truck when I do a frame off. The Camero came with a 305 but now has a 350 in it.
My Question is.
What is diffrence between a Z28 and a regular Camero?
Also how does the difference relate to my 57 project?

The frame is the same. The Z package is a performance suspension package. It offers a bigger swaybar, heavy duty springs and a quick ratio steering box. All of these parts can be added to any Camaro subframe.

Thanks for the fast get back. I read that when overhauling a Camera clip you should put heaver springs anyway. Will I need the heaver swaybar and quick ratio steering box? Also how hard are they to come by $$?

Can I use the rear end on my 57? I just called the guy and he said it has a 10 bolt positive traction rear end with traction bars.

Yes, I am running the Camaro Rearend in my 59. You won't "need" a bigger sway bar or a quick ratio steering box. Those are just perks for handling corners faster. I am running the stock sway bar on mine.

Re: Camero Z28 or just Camero?

Thanks for the help.
Do you know where I can find a a step by step way to put the Camero rear end on a 57?
I ordered the Brothers VHS tape on installing a Camero Clip.
I'm in the process of
Gathering as much info. as I can. Through book, the net, here in this Forum, etc.
Saving $bucks$.
Buying parts. Because they keep getting more expensive.
Selling my ole stock parts and trucks.
And of course learning. This forum is the best place for Info.
Thanks again for all the help!
I wish I had a building buddy here who had a truck as well to
Share info. and work.

Bob,
I don't know where you would find a step by step instructional but it looks as thought it would be pretty simple. I know that my Dad just cut the brackets off of both rearends. Then he welded the truck ones onto the camaro one.

Re: Camero Z28 or just Camero?

go to jalopyjournal.com. click on HAMB in the top right corner. do a search for camaro clip. one of the guys on there has an incredible step by step camaro clip in a 58 i believe. fantastic info and details - almost a step by step manual without paper. his technique gives large weld area and an easier way than having to cut up the camaro brackets.
i'm starting my clip this week, "God willing and the creek dont rise" as my daddy used to say.

If the car you are looking at is complete and in good running condition, I would recommend that you buy it. You can always upgrade the springs, sway bar and steering box later.

I've been told that, unless I'm doing any hard driving, the stock components should function well.

Re: Camero Z28 or just Camero?

i used the rear end from a 75 nova (pretty much the same thing)

i used the stock truck springs (minus a few leaves) and used s-truck shock mount/spring mounts.

worked out well.

Re: Camero Z28 or just Camero?

hey how is the quality of the brother tape you bought to install your clip? i bought one from no limit engineering some years back and it made me feel pretty ripped off, JUNK! seen porn tapes with better quality and dialog. we use the tape to prop the garage door open.

Nope, that was a truck from the 50s and the 90s
