Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Did you plan on running a set lowering blocks?
It will greatly help with a low ride height with the correct amount of air in the rear bags.
Otherwise I don't think you will like the stock looking ride height.

I currently have 2" lowering blocks but will be ordering the porterbuilt arms in a couple of weeks.

Slowcpe, just read through your build this evening and really enjoyed the work you are doing. Reminds me we all face the decisions of which direction to take a build and what parts to use to get there. Will be tagging along.

Frog Follies is our favorite street rod event.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Thanks. Since I got this truck I've tried to find ways to save money to build it quickly. I've since decided to do it right the first time and discard timelines. Plus business has been pretty good and I've got a little more truck budget than I originally started with. Still going to be slow going though.

I live like 4 miles from the Frog Follies and have gone nearly every year since I was in high school. Every year I enjoy it more and more. I may consider building a truck to enter if/when I ever get the 67 done.

I haven't touched the truck in a couple of weeks. Work has been busy, spent most of last week in Florida and now it's too stinking cold to get out in the garage. Plus I'm coming close to a standstill until I either get my PB parts or purchase a welder and learn how to use it.

All I know is I'm ready for warm weather and some car shows. Even though I won't be driving anything cool.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

I like your build- it's a lot like mine as far as evolution goes. I went from a stage 1 front to a mild DM and arms after my initial order. I should have just bit the bullit from the start. I also went from small block to LT-1 and finally a gen 4 ls. Plans- we don't need no stink'n plans.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

Well not too much to update....still waiting on my front end parts. This has been a LONG 9 weeks so I'm hoping any day I will be getting a shipping notice. Once they arrive I've got 2 buddies dying to help me mock-up the front end and get the drivetrain sitting inside the frame rails. In fact one of said buddies keeps tagging me in truck pics on IG. He now wants one but "a cheap one to mess around with". I told him the cheapest would be mine Did I mention he's a painter? He's swinging by one night this week hopefully to help me set the bed back on the frame so I can lay some things out.

Yesterday was a perfect spring day in Indiana, I live on a nice country road and got to witness everybody driving past the house in their hot rods and motorcycles. Kind of depressed me but motivates me at the same time to get back on the truck once parts arrive. I messed around with the truck for a while last evening but nothing exciting to report.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

We are starting week 11 with no PB parts. Not a big deal at this point as most of my time, and money, are going towards the yard.

I did pickup what should be my last major tool for the build: a new welder. I've never welded a day in my life but if I'm going to do bodywork, it's high time I learn. Did some research and decided on either the Miller 211 and the Hobart 210. Well I got a 10% off coupon via email along with some gift cards from Rural King so I went yesterday to pick it up the Hobart. I couldn't justify the additional coin for the Miller and figure this will be all the machine I'll ever need. So far I'm stoked with my purchase. I still have all the little bits n pieces to pickup still along with lots of learning in practice.

There's a lot of things I've never attempted in building this truck and will be adding welding to the mix. I've got buddies that weld so I'll be calling them in for assistance and trading out pointers for beer.

Cool to hear you're finally getting your PB parts. They are totally worth the wait.

Re: '67 Stepper "Laymond"

That's good to hear considering I'm going to receive the front end parts, mock-up, put bed back on and a fender, view the stance, and then decide on whether I'm going to finish out the Stage 2 Deluxe kit or go with the Level 1 rear. Then the wait will begin once again

I'll trade you a PBfab sticker and hat for all those boxes!
Ha.
Congrats on getting some quality products.
You just added value to your truck.
