noob from North Carolina

HI, i'm Charles from NC. I've got my hands on a 68 Chevy pickup to restore and possibly make into a tow rig. I'm sure i'll have a million questions, but the truck is VERY complete for 300 dollars. I'll probably be wanting 3/4 ton springs and a 14 bolt to put in it so it can handle a trailer with a Jeep on it.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Unless your jeep is extra heavy it ought to do fine as it is. Maybe upgrade to power disc brakes and have at it.

Do they typically have the 10 bolt or 12 bolt when stock? I'm not looking for a racer, but i don't wanna snap an axle with the gooseneck behind it, lol. i haven't actually laid hands on the truck yet, hopefully by saturday it will be in my yard though. i've seen it from across a fence, but haven't touched it. a friend owns it and is storing it at a shop in town.

Re: noob from North Carolina

I'm Charlie's buddy/roommate. We went to look at the 68, and it was definitely not as nice as we had thought. Doors rusted out on the bottom, rotted rockers, and the bed was growing grass (just to name a few...there were many other issues).

The search is tentatively completed to get him a project though. There is a 68(ish) GMC with a nearly new GM goodrich engine in it. $500 is a good price for as straight of a truck as it is. It needs wiring (I'm fairly sure that someone installed the battery backwards...easy to do when some ham fisted mechanic uses red for the ground and black for the hot wire), but with the total of what...8 wires in the truck? Shouldn't be too bad.

So, with a new motor for my truck, and some wiring for his, we'll have some pretty kick ass old GMC iron in the yard.
