Cost of Anodizing

Has anyone had the side trim from a Fleetside straightened and anodized? I haven't found anyone in my area that performs the work and I am trying determine what it might cost versus buying a new set from Mar-K.

I can't speak on anodizing but if you get MAR-K trim you will not be disappointed. I bought theirs and installed on my truck and it was perfect.

Re: Cost of Anodizing

Anodizing is about like chroming - expensive. I saw in one of the parts catalogs where you can buy reproduction full sets of 16 pieces for only 300 bucks or something. The only complaint I have heard was from people trying to use push-in clips with the thinner repop trim, and getting dings in it from pushing against the clip - sometimes this is from a novice trying to install trim who doesn't know what he's doing, and sometimes its simply the thinner nature of the repop trim, which is why I recommend using studded clips rather than push in types. If you go to www.truckandcarshop.com and buy the trim for pennies on the dollar and also buy the studded clips to do the job, there is no reason you should expect to be unhappy with the result. Two pieces of your 16 piece set are going to cost you 300 to anodize vs a whole set PROPERLY installed for that....my two cents anyway

x2
I have heard good things about MAR-K trim.

I helped install a set from Classic Parts or LMC and it was very thin. We were being very careful and still ended up with some dings.

Re: Cost of Anodizing

For cost effectiveness, you may want to look up how to anodize. I don't know the details but my brother just spent about $150 on the chemicals and something for the electric charge and is anodizing and selling paintball gun parts.
