89 2wd silverado 350: sensor identification
Trying to figure out what sensor is the one that is on the manifold next to the thermostat housing? Is it the water temp sensor? I picked one up from the auto parts store and the connector doesn't fit? It seems like the connected is broken? I'm not sure though can someone chime in?

From everything I remember, the water temp is in the driver or passenger side head, not the intake manifold. I'll look at the 94 later when the sun is up and see if it rings a bell with me.

The coolant temp sensor for the ecm/pcm is right next to the thermostat. The coolant sending unit for the gauge is in the drivers side cylinder head between the 1 and 3 exhaust ports.

Sounds like you got the gauge sensor, you're asking about the one for the computer.
SAVE THE OLD ONE! If the computer temp sensor ever takes a crap, it'll make your engine run very rich, the computer will think it's waaay cold and try to warm it up. Take the spare you saved out of the glove box and plug it in, don't worry about screwing it in until you have the proper tools and time. Leave the sensor laying on the intake, it will correct the problem if that sensor goes bad. |

Re: 89 2wd silverado 350: sensor identification
No I must of got the right one but the connector doesn't hook up to it, it has 2 pin connections, and the one for the guage on the side of the head looks similar to oil pressure, u just slide the connector over it. The problem I'm having is if there's another type of sensor that goes on the manifold because my connector seems to be just round and flat at the end.

Re: 89 2wd silverado 350: sensor identification
Haha give me a break ok, so on the connector side the top part of the sensor broke off and I looked at it and I thought it was the actual connector, until I really looked at the sensor and saw it was broken off and I pulled the broken piece off the connector.
