Axle question.
So I bought my 99 2500 with a blown front diff, (the pumpkin has a 3" crack). Anyway, I can't afford a SAS right now, and I don't want to pay for a new IFS system when I'll be ripping it out anyway. Do the axle hold the wheel in place? I'm used to SA, so I don't know much about IFS. If I pull the axles can I still drive it?

The axle holds the wheel bearings in place. Take it out and the wheel will flop around. Not sure if there is a way around it or not....

Another question, are these locking hubs? Or are they always engaged?

the only thing your actuating with your 4wd lever or switch is the tcase motor and the front axle actuator that engages and disengages 4wd

Damn, ok. Thanks for the info! Hopefully it doesn't lock up again. Did it once, and I Neutral dropped it and it unlocked the diff and I drove home. Just prefer to not have that happen again lol.

I haven't done it, but a buddy who is a mechanic told me that, so just going by what others do on a daily basis told me.....
I'd just get a diff to throw in there for now...
