Cab rear floor crossmember

Has anyone had to replace this part of the underside of the floor? I finally got underneath my new truck and found that both sides of the crossmember have rust through. It doesn't seem to be contagious to the actual bottom of the floor pan but won't know till that piece is gutted out. Is this a hard piece to attach as I'm sure it's a job for a welder? If this is rotted out, how likely is it to spread and how soon should it be torn out and replaced? Also, if it's not too much to ask...what would be a reasonable price to pay to have a professional do this? Thanks!

I believe this is what I'm after, as from underneath the truck this is what looks to be what is rusting out in the corners item #16

Re: Cab rear floor crossmember

that is a most common rust area. i would think the cab corners would be rusted as well!! but as far as repairing it depends if your willing to tackle the problem yourself, have the tools, alittle know how, and a welder. or shop around and get estimates at auto body shops. as for me i would repair it my self and save some cash! First you might read FAQ Thread on panel repair to see what your up against

Re: Cab rear floor crossmember

I had my rear ps rusted so far in where the normal replacement piece was tree inches too short, the rust went so far where i cut out another three inches past where the rear cab mount goes, got a full crossmember support from gmcpauls, cut in half only because i already replaced my drivers sidesupport, and cut, fit, trim, fit, trim, fit, now working on the floor yikes, should have just got the whole floor assembly...but, hey, first full restore, many lessons learned!!!
