Re: 1970 K5 Project

Its been awhile since my last update. The reason for that is my mom had a stroke Jan 1 (Happy New Year) . So I had some major remoldeling to do to the house so that my wife and could bring here home and care for her. Added a full wheel chair accessable bathroom downstairs because there was only a half bath downstairs. Anyways I have had some time the last couple weeks to get back to my project. Here are a few pics of my progress.

Re: 1970 K5 Project

Got the doors, fenders and grill all back on. Needs some fine tuning but its pretty close. Also put the dist in and got my plug wires on and routed.
The grill took me awhile to polish, mask off and paint but I think it turned pretty nice for for a 42 year old grill. More pics.

Re: 1970 K5 Project

The rims I bought used a long time ago, not what brand they are. The steering wheel I got from Jegs its a Grant Mahogany series. Item # 410-1178.

Re: 1970 K5 Project

Update on my progress which has been slow to say the least . Painted my tailgate a couple weekends ago and got it on now. Wired in my trailer plug and hooked up my emergency brake also bled out my brakes too. And did a lot of misc stuff to try and tie up all the loose ends that I had. Need to finish my interior panels and paint the top. Also pulled my rear diff cover only to find out that the gears were changed They are 3.73 so I am gonna swap out the front gears to match. And someday I will get my front buckets recovered and the bench seat also. Have a crappy pair of vega buckets seats for now. Going to fire it up next weekend. Here are a few pics.

Re: 1970 K5 Project

Really Nice Details, Crisp Color Contrast, ( Steering wheel is way better) a lot of hurdles have come your way and you plowed thru them. You have a really sweet ride going. What did you use for your rear inner panels? Great photo's, Thanks for sharing..

Re: 1970 K5 Project

Wow, what a great looking truck. You've got some serious skills. I have a 1970 K5 that needs new headers and I wanted to ask you: what headers did you go with? I'm concerned about ordering some and having trouble with fitment on mine.

Re: 1970 K5 Project

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Since my last post I have had the ball joints replaced and the stearing box was leaking a little bit so I had it rebuilt.
The material that I used on the rear panels started to come off the 1/4 inch that I had it glued to so I replace them with some 1/4 inch walnut panels and stained them to somewhat match the woodgrain on the door panels. Looks ok for now but I may end up replacing them some where down the road. The headers that I used where headman had them on my 4x4 suburban first then I swapped them for better ones so I put them on the blazer had to trouble with the fit on either truck. I will look the number up and post it. I have been looking at late model seats. Another board member had put in a 3rd row seat out of a 1997 suburban and bucket seats out of a 1997 Tahoe and I thought it looked pretty sweet. I think the grey leather would go pretty good with my interior.

So good! Love the color. Beautiful truck.
I ordered that same floor mat a while back and haven't installed it because it was not was I was expecting. How do you like it?
