Intake Manifold Underside Oil deflector/baffle

Is this REALLY necessary? I had my manifold sandblasted and there is a bunch of sand inside it. Friend of mine says its just to keep oil off the top of the manifol to cool it all of 3 degrees. If so then I don't see the urgancy of keeping it on! Thanks?

aftermarket (edelbrock and such) intakes dont have it, so i doubt it would matter if you removed it

Exclamation you need it

If there is sand in the baffel, you have to get it out.
A small chisel and hammer will wiggle the keepers out. Then clean the manifold and baffle with brake cleaner. The sand will kill your motor! The baffel is used to reduce heat to the intake under the carb.
