Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

I have a 76 GMC long bed stepside. Not very common. Especially any GMC's. I bought the truck from a junkyard that was going to crush it.

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

I have speculated about what it would look like to widen one of these, put in tubs inside, and put on a dually, then add a spare on each side for good measure to utilize that extra gap in front of the fender. might look better on the 73-80s

Cool Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

Only seen one in my life in Huffman, Tx. I actually like it alot, I have a swb and now I see that I'm older that swb are kinda waste of money, limited hauling room. I would love to own a lwb stepside.

I picked up this '80 for 100$ Without fenders or tailgate I figure the long bed steps would be more rare ? Not sure if re poped or not.

Very impressive line up! Unfortunately, I just don't see the appreciation for preserving longbed stepsides in showroom condition in America.

longbed are cool well worth restoring, rather than wasting your time restoring a short bed that when you get done all you have is a car without a trunk lid.they are just plain worthless.

Every now and then I question why I like long beds so much and then I am reminded. Most people I know are on the shortbed bandwagon and I just have to shake my head. Current DD has a 96"x102" flatbed and it is heavenly when I need to haul something.

I can remember seeing 3 complete longbed steps over the years. One C30, delivered rock salt; one C20, roofer's truck; and I think the third was just parked somewhere. I don't see many over here in WA.

Really? Thats funny considering I have made a nice living driving my "useless" CCSB for work trucks. Just because you dont like something does not mean it doesnt have a purpose.

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

Wow--- can't believe I haven't seen this thread before--- I own TWO long bed step sides - 1977 C20 Custom Cab 2wd w/292 L6 bare-bones fleet vehicle, owned it since 1985 and while mechanically it's good to go, its body is still very rough.

My other project a 1986 GMC C3500 Sierra 2wd w/SB long-bed, bought on auction for $600, also another fleet vehicle that was drive-able but needed a lot of mechanical to pass smog, etc., meanwhile, after about 6 years of faithful service it's 350 needs heads redone at the very least.

Personally, I've only seen maybe 5 or 6 other long bed steppers besides mine and am always on the lookout for... BODY PARTS~!!! The bed sides mainly, because once they get beat to he** (which mine are) original sides in decent shape are almost impossible to find and I don't want after market sides - seen 'em before up close and they don't compare to originals.

Ciao~!

This is what it looks now It's in the shop for the winter. Paint on all the rough areas, frame paint, new shocks, wood bed, relocation shock brackets, conversion front disc brakes, muffler system. Always wanted a step side, and looked at short beds and long beds.....for some reason i was attracted to the long bed. Thank you for your comment The paint in the picture looks better then reality!
