Help me build my engine 350 ci
I have new cylinder heads(world sr torquers with 67 cc 2.02 1.60 valves) 373 rear gear, turbo 350 turbo trans,I will put in a stall converter.I was thinking a zz 350 short block or blue print engines short block,I cant decide on a roller cam, head gaskets I have a budget of about $4000.00 dollars. This will be a weekend cruiser. This is a 67 short bed by the way with 28 inch tires. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Re: Help me build my engine 350 ci
When you say weekend cruiser, are you leaning more toward long drives or short jaunts around town?

Re: Help me build my engine 350 ci
Head gaskets should be tailored to the piston to deck height to achieve a quench btw .040 to .045. Multi layer steel are usually the gaskets of choice.
Cams are picked on your personal preference, the rpm range that you want the power to peak, cubic inches, transmission, compression, and cyl head flow. Is it ok if the gas mileage suffers for more power ?

Re: Help me build my engine 350 ci
Gas mileage is not a big concern,The engine short block I think I am going to pick is similar to the one above, blueprint# bp38318sp,+12 cc dish pistons, cam specs are,@.050 lift .528 int.536 exhaust, duration 211 intake,226 exhaust,if I use .015 head gasket, according to summit compression calculator will be 9.85.1.Is this a safe compression for 93 octane, the pistons are .025 in the hole I think,Thanks in advance.Jeff

There are other factors involved that affect being able to "toe the line" on octane used. Find an online free "dynamic compression" calculator tool, and use it to find a cam that gives you a dynamic compression of no more than 8.0. One very useful spec that most leave out when discussing a cam's specs is the lobe separation angle. Lift is relevant only to piston to valve clearance, but means little to "characteristics". Duration at the seat and at .050 lobe lift, along with the lobe separation angle, is everything when ; picking, discussing, or comparing cams ! Your cam listed would be extremely mild (very near stock), even in a smaller engine. A 383 will make any cam seem smaller as compared to the same cam in a 350 - which is the cubic inch that cam descriptions use in catalogs and online.

A discussion on the Corvette forum. https://www.google.com/search?q=dyna...hrome&ie=UTF-8 A search with a ton of links. Lookup Pat Kelly's dynamic compression calculator too.

Re: Help me build my engine 350 ci
That's gotta be a roller, but 15* extra duration for the exhaust? That's a large split. I think this cam with 9.8:1 compression is borderline for your heads. Vortecs tolerate 9.5:1 with a really tiny cam but they have the best combustion chamber design out there in regards to octane tolerance.
