His truck looks pretty much level as is. My 2000 GMC with 285's sits just about like that.

Your friend's torsion bars may be weakened a good bit but I have a lot more available lift left in mine by cranking them up if I wanted to. I want to go the other way with mine, drop it 2 or 3 inches. I don't offroad so lift isn't important to me.

He might not get much more even with ford keys. When the tbars are shot you can only get so much crank out of them.

Tell him to pick up a 1.5" body lift from zone offroad to get a little more clearance.

body lifts are illegal in maine. so should he get some new bars and ford keys from a junkyard? he doesnt want to go up much just enough to make it so the tires dont rub when he backs up turning

Re: looking for pictures of leveled or lifted a little but 1999-06 gmcs

body lifts are illegal in Maine?? WTF, why? Does Maine DOT think they know better than the engineers who designed the body lift in the first place? Like anything else, a properly designed and installed aftermarket accessory is only as good as the installer. If that is a fact, somebody ought to challenge it. I think they may be confused by the homemade hockey puck bodylifts that people used to use, stacking pucks with low-grade bolts and splitting the pucks. Even so, it's not likely to cause an accident, it's just going to let your cab settle onto the frame crooked.

Re: looking for pictures of leveled or lifted a little but 1999-06 gmcs

holy cow, I just spent a half hour reading Maine lift laws, sounds like they have backed off a little and dont totally prohibit the bodylifts on abs vehicles, but the computer or vssb has to be calibrated so the abs works properly. But then it goes on to say tires should only be allowed to be upsized two sizes. Elsewhere it says 'within reason'. Well, in who's reason? Because I happen to think 40 inch tires are pretty reasonable.

OK, so I've decided not to move to Maine.

Re: looking for pictures of leveled or lifted a little but 1999-06 gmcs

NH has a little lift law quirk: the inspection manual the inspection stations use says that the allowable 30 inch maximum height is to be measured at the frame, while the motor vehicle code the police use says to measure to the bottom of the bumper. That's a good 2-3 inch difference on my truck
