About how much does a 60 panel weigh.

My trailer is rated at 7,000 pounds. I am going to possibly get a 60 panel and dont know if they are rated heavier than the trailer. I loaded my old 63 K20 on it and end up bending one of the axles do to the weight. Of course it was a brush truck for the local fire department and had a few extras on it.

They certainly don't weigh that much. You'll be fine with that trailer.

I didn't think so but after loading the 63 K20 I wanted to make sure.

7000 lbs includes the weight of the trailer, most trailers weigh around 2000 lbs so you can haul 5000 lbs. You didn't say if this was a 1 ton panel or 1/2 ton panel. I have hauled a one ton panel on my trailer, I took it real easy and had no problems. The faster you go the harder it is on the wheel bearings and tires when you have a heavy load.

Yeah that is my fault. It's just a 1/2 ton.

Re: About how much does a 60 panel weigh.

Panel is likely in the 4000-4500 lbs range, depenind on what's in it. You're likely close to the limit on that trailer but should still be under it.

I put my '65 panel on a U-haul car trailer with no problems.

My 61 1/2 ton fleet pickup weighs 3700 with me in it if that helps.

Re: About how much does a 60 panel weigh.

Up here in WA our transfer stations (the dump) charge based on weight. They weigh you on the way in and then on the way out and the difference is your load weight. It shows on the receipt the in and out weights...not sure if other areas do that but it is a great way to get your truck weight. Also all gravel pits, quarrys, and landscape materials companies have scales for their dump trucks and are usually friendly about letting you drive across to determine your weight.

Those are my favorite car trailer. I love the short deck. They don't drag on every transition and tie down is a snap. A friend got ahold of one with no axles . Which is hard to do . Uhaul scraps them if they can't fix them.
You also have to make up a story about towing volgswagon if you want to rent them.

Add 200 lbs for the 1960-62 frame. 1963 Chevrolet had a new lighter frame. Curb weight is at the bottom of the page.

Re: About how much does a 60 panel weigh.

My '61 Suburban went over the scale at exactly 4,000 pounds with a rear seat, most of a tank of gas, me, my son and a 100 pound tool kit.
