Dana 60 front hubs keep locking - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have an 87 V3500 and I have been having an issue with the front hubs working their way over into the lock position. If I turn them to the free position, after about 20 miles they both have turn about half way to the engaged position. I pulled both sides apart and everything is in place and well greased. Anyone have any advice on these?

Does it have a locker or LSD in the front? Had this issue years ago with a locked front diff.

What kind of grease did you use in there? Moly may be too slippery for what you really need there.
Also, the lockouts themselves don't need much grease in that part, just enough so they will move. Too much and they may work loose.

Are the wheel bearings adjusted properly so they're not binding and causing this?

Are the "detents" in the plastic locking assembly worn out? Can they be "regrooved"?

You don't want grease in your locking hubs. No grease needed outside the outer bearing. No high speed friction happening there, just oil is good. The only action is sliding to lock or unlock. Also, could the springs be weak?
