Cheap temp speedometer

I have a post-1992 700R4 transmission in my 64C10, which I assume means it takes an electical speedometer. What is a decent cheap speedometer I can get until I get the money to buy all new matching gauges?

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

I'm not sure there are any cheap/decent electric speedos. From the reviews I've read the inexpensive gauges are rarely worth what they cost. I'd be more inclined to study all the different brands and decide what you're going to buy when you do have the money for a matching set, and then buy just their electric speedo for now. That way you don't have to replace it later, and run the risk that the type of sending adapter may have to be changed as well.

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

This is about the cheapest I have found.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-new-St...1d74ba&vxp=mtr

I just have not had any luck in my searching in finding out just what it takes to make that speedo operate. My next step was to send the seller a message and see if he has any info on them.

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

Compass app on a smart phone. I used mine for quite a while on my old dodge until I got a good feel for gear/rpm/speed patterns then just learned to flow with traffic until I got my real speedo working.

We used our Garmin, as well. Also was very handy when programming new speedo.

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

Thanks for all the replies. I'm using Ulysses Speedometer on my phone and it works extremely well, but it kills my battery so I can't use it for a long time.

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a car charger and put in a 12volt outlet and use your phone for now?

You can buy an adapter to attach to where your cable would normally go on your transmission. It then acts as a VSS which can also be handy for cruise control if you ever go that route.

Here yah go, you can find them cheaper on Ebay BTW:

Oh and if you don;t have a spot on your transmission for a cable hookup try something like this maybe:

This, or something similar will still be useful even after you get an in dash speedometer.

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

I've been using an android phone app.
It even works with an old phone that isn't tied to a carrier.
It's called DigiHUD

This is exactly what I use. You can even change it to do heads up display. Excellent app.

I use Speed Box- an app for my phone. Got me thru 2 Drag Weeks and a lot of regular driving. It will eat up our battery, though, quick!

you can remove the sensor ring from the output shaft and install a plastic gear and clip from early 700r4

Re: Cheap temp speedometer

here's one that should fit in your dash.... GPS based 9cm is 3.54 inches so it should fit the hole.
