Adjusting the idle on a Qjet...
I see there are two idle adjusters...one the idle stop (throttle arm) and the other the idle needles. How do you go about adjusting the idle? Do you start with the idle needles? What's the best method?

If tools and equipment are not avalible what I would do is warm engine up to operating temp, set parking brake, block wheels, drop transmission into drive,(assuming it's automatic) now we are also assuming the carb is healthy, turn one side in until the engine rpms start to drop, now back off screw 1/4- 1/2, now do the same for the other, now return to first one and do that one over again, adjust engine idle screw to specs, this should put you in the ball park.

i must be dense...or it's late after a long day..but what do you mean set the engine idle screw to spec? what is the spec?

on a stock 350, i believe spec is 550 rpm at idle in drive. I'm not positive on this as it's been awhile since I looked in the book and it's in the barn. Mine idles at 750 in park and about 580 in drive.

Yeah,,,550 to 600 should be fine in drive or 700 to 750 in neutral, any more than that and you may experience dieseling or run on when you shut down.
