Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

My truck came equipped with them; they're on the SPID; they're on my workbench.

But should they go back on my truck?

I'd have to polish them out, and it's dangerous if you catch it on the buffer. But maybe more shiny stuff is good. My truck is basically an explosion of blue paint and chrome anyway.

Then again, my 2+2 had them and I opted not to interrupt the styling with them. But this is a truck.

Thoughts?

There suppose to save the door edge paint from getting chipped and messed up. However when you put them on, that is usually what happens in the process. LOL! I like shiny stuff. Especially on dark colors. But I say leave them off!

My thoughts exactly. I did not put them back on after my truck was finished.

Leave them off. They just break the body line and aren't pretty. Plus, every time I see a vehicle with them I think there's another person who doesn't care if he damages the side of my vehicle but does care if he damages his.

Re: Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

my truck has em too. i'll probably leave em off when I redo the body. Agree with Firstowner, the vertical shiny line kinda breaks the body lines lines - especially on your dk blue paint, maybe not a good thing. But it will look fine either way - they kinda go with your mirrors! Ya gotta get some chrome whip antennas on those bad boys, good buddy.

Re: Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

What do the door edge guards look like? I have them listed on two of my blazer spid but neither one has them. (Or original doors for that matter)
I have always wondered what they look like.

Sorry I don't have a better pic, I just painted my doors and took this pic to show the NOS "Custom". These door edge guards are the original ones, they are listed on the SPID. Couple of small rubs/chips marks when installing, but they are covered up by the guards, I am happy with them.....

Re: Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

I like them but if you've re-skinned your doors and/or the lines of the doors are modified at all they can be a real bear to install. I've got quite a few scratches from the install. Be careful!!

Re: Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

I'd say Yay not just because they are on your SPID (im sure if you had those on your truck 40+ years ago you were a high roller!)
but also because I've never actually seen a truck with them. I looked at the pics that were on SuperC10Tex build thread and I think they look pretty slick. I think they will accent your other chrome...

Re: Door Edge Guards - Yay or Nay?

Thing is they'll destroy the paint going on, so you don't really get a chance to decide after they go on.

I think I'll sand/buff/polish them out. If they come out like my gas cap did, I'll go with them. If they're not blindingly beautiful, I won't.

I don't open my doors into people, so there's no practical purpose to them.

Even though they are a SPID item, they still look like a JC Whitney item to me...!
