It was an option on 71/72's and maybe earlier I'm not 100% on that. The reason I asked for a picture is because there is a modern reproduction AM/FM made that si supposed to look exactly like the original but has Bluetooth plus a built in microphone so you can stream your music or take calls on your smartphone.

The true factory am/fm truck radio became a factory option in the '71 model forward thru the '72 model. Option # U69, total FACTORY installed am/fm radios for the first year option was 5,282 units. This from my "Chevrolet Pickup Red Book information. There is a close resemblance am/fm VAN radio from that era but it has a different font on the front panel. Will mount the same and same function but not factory correct. The original truck am/fm radios are somewhat hard to find and a bit spendy when you do find them. I have one in my '71 4x4 I found at a swap meet and purchased for $230. Took another $250 to have it restored to working order. Lot of $$ for a radio true but being a somewhat rare option it was what I wanted for the truck. Same as me adding factory tilt, factory tow hooks, factory tach, 4 core radiator to my truck. It's only money, LOL.

man that would be a awesome radio to have, mines a rusty bugger but im gonna try not to cut the dash, and since i ride with no top i want to keep the crackheads from stealing radio maybe the stock look alike will fool them

Re: Original Am/FM Radio

I -think- this is an original case with digital guts. Either way it's not "original" but should appear darn close to it.... except the originals would say "Delco" in the bottom right I think.

Re: Original Am/FM Radio

Just a plug here for a good, related product. Greg owner of s/m Electrotech in MN sells USA made replacement speakers for 67-72 pickups and another for use on double wall k5s, which used a speaker mounted below the dash. Greg also restores automotive radios. http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm

Re: Original Am/FM Radio

I realize this is an old thread, but does anyone know if you can buy a reproduction chrome faceplate/ bezel for a factory AM/FM radio? I have one from a van, which uses the same piece, but the chrome is trashed, and I found out, it is actually broken. I know some of the aftermarket ones use what looks like a reproduction bezel.

I agree ... My understanding is before 71 only AM - after 71 AM-FM
Although many including me has a factory AM-FM installed.

This would be a replacement piece, that I am asking about. Could be used on an original unit.

Jeffrey,

Find out if your brother wants to sell it, and how much? Thank you. Mike

It may be possible to repair it depending upon the damage and a re-chrome wouldn't cost that much. Consider reaching out to Electroplating of El Paso - they might be a source for repair and re-chrome.
