So I have always wanted a 68 Chevy truck and a 66 GTO, best of both worlds covered. I was driving through a blizzard in Nebraska over the holidays (I live in Idaho) and what do I find, out in the middle of no where but a 66 GTO, untouched by teenagers but trailer-ed for a few grand. 3 to be precise. Hell, it would be worth that without the motor.

Problem is, I live so dang far away. I always told my wife that I would not restore another car unless I found a 66 GTO or Tempest LeMans in the wild and here I found it, just in the wrong place. Oh well, everything happens for a reason I reckon and I still have my 68 CHecy glamour truck. =)

Idaho to Nebraska is not that far...

You might not get another opportunity like that. I still kick myself over the '67 Firebird convertible I passed up years ago because it didn't have the engine I wanted.

I am from Iowa and found my unicorn in Idaho. bought it and figured out how to get it back to Iowa later. Man, I would not change it for anything! I will never find this truck again! BUY IT, BUY IT! YOU WILL REGRET NOT GETTING YOUR CAR.

Had help from members on this forum to set up the loading and transport. Best classic truck forum on the web, and many very good members with a ton of knowledge!

Distance & transportation be damned, if you don't buy it you will always regret it.

And you will almost definitely never find another like it as long as you live.

Heck...hook up a trailer and go after it!

I hooked up a trailer and drove from Nor-Cal to Kansas to pick up an old Power Wagon.

This after attempting to find a decent transport company to bring it to me. I was not having much luck, so I just drove myself.

Took me two days to get there, and two days to get back. It was well worth the trip!

The way I see it, if you can swing the money, make the effort to get it. Save yourself years of mental anguish. Either way for you, this project will either be the "wish I had" or "glad I did" project. We all hope you do, and you'll be glad you did.

back in my early 20s I drove a 68 gmc c20 and 67 gto, both yellow..

sad stories on both of them, still browsing occasionally for another goat..

do you have the number of the 66 gto owner in ne? serious!

I'm jumping in with the "Get it" crowd. I've shipped several cars. It's expensive, but not THAT expensive.

Assuming that you have the scratch. I'd be paying the guy and arranging transport. Or it's going to be the one that got away. And you never forget those. (I certainly don't)

It’s sounding to me like you have an opportunity for a Road trip.
All you need is a capable truck to pull a U-haul car trailer. Pick it up local to the car and turn it in near your house. Just do it

That’s not far at all. I found the original motor to my 70SS LS6 in a town called Owls Head, Maine. Roughly 1600 miles one way from Omaha. Made the trip in about 50 hours.

When I was right out of college living in NY, my dad was looking to get a 1969 E-Type like the one he had when he was in the Air Force. He found one in Vancouver, Canada over 2,800 miles away. He called me at work and wanted me to fly out with him and drive it home with him. I said no way.

I told him to ship it on the auto train to Toronto and I'd give him a ride to the train station (still a 4+ hour drive one way) figuring I discouraged him from the purchase. 2 hours later he calls me back and tells me to take next Friday off because he needed a ride to Toronto.

I still remember the car but more importantly the trip and experience crossing the border with my dad and his grin the whole entire trip.

I went with a few buddy's to Michigan from Sask, Canada in 08 to get a truck I wanted. The road trip I will never forget. Sometimes after looking at the PO's work I regretted the truck but the road trip I will never regret. It was so much fun. I met my wife literally 3 weeks before I went so I had no explanation to make. I'd do it again today for the right vehicle.
