What do you think happen here?
Decided it was time to replace the rockers so I pulled the cowl, fenders and doors. By the look of the spot welds it appears this piece was damaged at the factory and covered by the fender. It would also explain the perpetual front end squeak.
There is also cracking in the fender (which has had cracks welded before) and a crack at the upper fender bolt hole.

Re: What do you think happen here?
Are you saying the outer panel was wadded up before being spot welded to the inner (which is undamaged)?
It could happen, but normally we would just pitch the damaged part and use a good one. The piece cost to GM is so cheap that it is easier to start over (even if a complete cab is damaged). If it was damaged in process (after the spot welding) then I could see processing it through, as long as the determination was made that it would be covered up and not cause any other process or use issues. My Chevelle was damaged at the factory (Oshawa). My mom and dad were the original owners and I got it directly from them. The first time we stripped the front clip down for a repaint there was bondo under the marker light forward of the front wheel. K

It may not look like it but most of the dent is outward.
