Getting ready for fall camping

Just got our 1962 Nomad camper pit of storage and am cleaning it up for fall camping. We usually go in the spring and fall (and maybe summer) but didn't go this spring because most campgrounds had their bathrooms closed and our camper doesn't have one. I was fine with it, but my wife and daughter....... not so much. We are looking forward to this fall's trip.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

Nice looking rig. Love the old ones , have a 70s Shasta that's now just a hunting camp . Everything works but the frame needs work to be road worthy again. It has that all in one bath. Take a shower with the sink and toilet. At least everything gets a rinse

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

We've got a 1970 Roadrunner with a similar layout. It's not so nice, though. The hail storm really beat it up a few years ago. I'm trying to decide whether to fix it up for the road again or just move it over to the 20 acres we're buying next door and build a roof over it for guest camping.

I'm not really so keen on pulling a camper trailer anymore. These days I prefer a single unit to go boondocking in rough places. The Roadrunner was my logging camp for years and worked great for that.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

Simple and vintage. This 56 Dalton was brought to my attention last night. $9500 asking. No bathroom, I never used the toilets in my old trailers anyhow, there are other ways No stove, I have a camp stove. Has a bed, and dining set, I'll take that all day. Color is less than desirable, that's what paint is for.

Course it would never be as cool as your set-up. It would be pulled by 5.7 Tundra like it's not even there. Thing only weighs 1100.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

That looks like a pretty solid camper, Tim. Price is definitely reasonable based on what it looks like on the outside.

We're heading out Sunday and staying several nights at Lake Nolin near Mammoth Cave National Park. We're going horseback riding Sunday, then hiking, biking, caving, kayaking, etc., etc.

Another pic of truck and camper.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

Nice combo for sure. I bet you get a lot of attention at the campgrounds... and everywhere else. I enjoyed Mammoth Cave when I went there many moons ago on my way back east from when I lived in AZ. It was raining and I loved it! Green and lush in October. There's a hidden river (part subterranean) also, right? Yeah, that camper was kept under a carport, so that really helped. I like the size. About as big as I'd want and still can be easily towed with anything I have. I think it's 14'. Not as cool as yours, though. I think it's a '74.

Have a great time!

That yellow Prowler looks about 19'-22'

That's the same size as our 1974 Prowler 19' and weighs about 3000lbs. The only difference is the location of the door. Our Prowler had the same paint when we got it, looks much different now.

That's a great price if it's solid.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

Here's a few more of our camper. It was restored by the previous owner who rescued it from a field. I've always loved the ones with the completely wood interiors. The Nomad campers are pretty uncommon although I believe they were made at the same factory as Shasta's which I tend to see more of. I think the magazine rack is cool with the cutout of the "N" in the same script that is used for the Nomad nameplate.

Re: Getting ready for fall camping

Great pictures and great time, too, I bet. I love that camper of yours. That GMC looks like it was once a very nice camper as well. The water damage is making itself obvious.

Looks like you guys really had a good time. Great pictures.

So do the camper owners own trucks or the truck owners own campers?
