Question stripped intake bolt - what to do?

was installing my engine lift plate onto my Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and one of the carb stud holes stripped out. I thought that it was coming when I installed my carb last time. Is it as easy as tapping it out and going with a larger stud to hold the carb down? thanks..

Heli-Coil Screw Thread Inserts – These are thread repair kits

Many hardware stores and auto parts stores in my area carry Heli-coil kits.

Heli-Coil is the way to go. I have had very good luck with them.

I will agree will all of the above. Use them all the time at work and they are a lifesaver.

Re: stripped intake bolt - what to do?

Helicoils are good, but do you have to use one? If you just stripped out the top part of the threads, use a longer stud. Another option is to tap for a 3/8 bolt, and make a stud that steps down to 5/16, but it helps if you have a lathe.

Whatever you do, don't drill out the hole in the carb base. They're marginal on the flange, and it ruins the value of your core.

Re: stripped intake bolt - what to do?

the heli coil will make for a repair that will never have an issue again.the problem with using the 3/8's bolt is that if those threads ever get messed up your screwed theres not much meat there to redrill again.
