Dash gauge won't move past 100 degrees

So guys my dash gauge won't move up too operating temp. I've tried ground out the gauge and it does peg out past 260, but I changed the temp switch on the side of the block and I'm still having the same issue. Anybody else run into this same issue?

I'm fairly certain the tbi v8s have two temp sensors. the dash reads off the one on the intake and the computer uses the one of the side of the cylinder head.

I thought the one on the intake went too the computer?

Side is the gauge sensor (on a 93 anyway). I have a gauge that didn't seem to read right and replaced the sensor. Still didn't read right but when I check the temp with a infrared gauge at the sensor in the head it was actually rather close. So you might want to verify the temp at the sensor

Try replacing the pigtail and a bit of the wire to the sensor in the head. The single wire can get brittle and break especially around the connector, causing no reading.

The sensor in the intake goes to the computer, the sensor in the head goes to the gauge.

same issue for me replace pig tail and sensor gauge still sits near or around 100, but get this see if this happens to yours, turn the ignition off you'll get the true reading does your gauge peg up to correct reading middle?, this is how mine operates.

i thought the one off the side of engine block near spark plugs went to gauge?

also chevy gauges self test when starting up watch your temp gauge peg all the way far right when u turn ignition on, this is the self test prior to motor start.

mine has me stumped.?????

Measure with an infrared thermometer.

If the gauge is accurate according to the thermometer reading the head in the same location...
Low coolant? Measure the temp lower on the block...
Bad thermostat? Measure the temp at the coolant neck on the intake...

If your heater is blowing hot air after 5 minutes then your getting up to temp chack your wiring from the gauge to the sending unit and if it is good consider running a cheap gauge to check and see things.

If blowing cold air after 5 minutes throw in a new 195F thermostat and a new radiator cap.

Check your water pump for any seepage around the seals or lower hose for any pin holes. If you do the water pump flush out the engine you will be surprised the amount that will come out from over the years.
